bike ride: upriver to baden or south to wallensee?

im off on a bike ride tomorrow (starting place zurich) but dont know whether to go upriver to baden or down the lake and end up at Walensee. basically i was wondering is Wallensee anything to look at? Also: is upriver to baden nice? is there a bike track all the way?

thanks very much!

Re: bike ride: upriver to baden or south to wallensee?

Baden is mostly along gravel track if you want to go right along the river. Otherwise, you can go up beside the main road that runs to Baden, there is bike path beside it.

To me the ride is nicest when you actually start getting into Baden (over the bridge, to the falls, etc).

I haven't gone down to Wallensee so I can't help there.

You remind me of the ex-wife. The fun we had debating whether you go down to Chur (South) or up (vertically).

Re: bike ride: upriver to baden or south to wallensee?

The track beside the river Limmat was closed near Killwangen when we went about 3 weeks ago as they are doing major rail works. It might have re-opened since then, but the rail works are certainly still there so I'm not so sure.

I would try to check before you set out from Zurich to Baden.

Thanks Craban. We thought definitely we'll go south up the lake to Walensee but in the end got as far as Wallisellen before getting the train back. No wonder Lance Armstrong takes drugs.

Ouch!

Next time take the train to ziegelbrucke and ride around walensee, then take the train back. Easy.
Couple of energy gels and a decent pasta meal in between should do the trick, and you wont need any drugs

Happy riding!
