Re: day tour in Zurich

This is a self-guided tour of the city

http://www.gpsmycity.com/tours/zrich...tour-3495.html

It doesn't actually include the Old Town area around Niederdorf. I would make a slight diversion to include that.

I also recommentd one of the many boat trips

Re: day tour in Zurich

With 16 hours to kill, you can get a day pass for the public transport and head on down to the main train station. Then walk or tram up the Bahnhoffstrasse to the lake. Go left to the Bellvue and then walk in the park right along the lake. Rent a paddle boat for an hour. Take the tram on up to the highest zoo in Europe. Afterwards come on back down and tour the old city. That should do it!

Knies Zoo in Rapperswil could also be good. Rapperswil old town is worth a visit.

Mid-Sept. - it's pretty dependent on the weather. We are having an unpredictable weather year, which is difficult to plan. To plan 16 hours (including meeting your transit flights), I would make at least 2 scenarios.

Zürich is of course not like London, where you would have a myriad of solutions to spend great (un eye-rolling time) with your to-be teenager e.g. London Dungeons mixed in with a cool museum and rounded-off with a shopping trip and memorable place to eat within those few hours, as well as seeing some historic / cultural sites and travelling down the Thames between locations.

I'm sure that we can come-up with some ideas - would help to know what she enjoys and what you both expect from the trip.

I envy you - I'd love to live those Mom / daughter trips again with my now 21 year old!

Re: day tour in Zurich

also what could be interesting for children are following:

Zoologisches Museum - Universität Zürich
http://www.zm.uzh.ch/de.html
This is quite close to Zurich HB (main railway station). Also it has a special train called Poly Bahn to reach to this museum. This train is also quite fun for children.
The museum is on higher side, and you can enjoy a good view of the Zurich lake and city.

Another interesting thing you can watch with children is the Train Museum

Re: day tour in Zurich

Hi,
RobBos's suggestion is very good. One more thing. Only few streets from Banhofstrasse is a nice Botanic garden. Good to relax, walk, taking pictures.
