I rechecked the guide book, the ladders can be avoided by going over the col. Stephen thanks for the info about buses and cable car, i got the timings of the cable car although i couldn't get the price of the ticket for some reason.
And although i would have loved to go via the Europaweg but due to the time constraint i would skip that part and go directly from St Niklaus to Zermatt.
