Things to do in Basel with Kids on a Sunday.

Hi All,

Every Sunday I ask myself the same question. What should I do or where should I go with my family on a Sunday around Basel.
When is very hot we go to some swimming pools, that's really great. But when average Swiss weather is around I don't have many solutions.
We went a few times to a jumping park (Nepomuks) in Germany, it's cool, also for walks on the woods.
If you have ideas I would really love to know them.
Thanks in advance to all and have a great weekend!

Martin

Zoo, grün80 park, minigolf, i liked tinguely museum as a kid, check out events and fairs in the region, visit the region lot of stuff in a 2 hours radius from basel, for rainy days there's transport museum in lucerne, technorama in winterthur and things like that very suitable for families.
If you like pools and depending on the age of the kids look for fun places like Alpamare, or more relaxing thermal baths like bad zurzach, bad schinznach, etc. There is maybe even more in Germany and France.
For more routine stuff biking, hiking, skiing are very common swiss sunday activities, biking is suitable for "lazy" people too, you can rent e-bikes.
If you got money why not weekend trips, the things to do become infinite.
This website can give you some ideas too: http://www.myswitzerland.com/en-ch/home.html

Re: Things to do in Basel with Kids on a Sunday.

We often used to take my son to the Grun 99 park over in Weil am Rhein. It's a big park with all kinds of sculptures plus a sort of gravel pit with cranes and diggers that you operate with hand cranks. Plus there are plenty of forests and Wanderwege to explore around Basel.

One thing we did when we first arrived was do the Jubilaeumweg over several weekend which was put together in celebration of Basel's 500th anniversary of being in the Swiss confederation. The sections take you though the surrounding countryside and through the town. We found it a great way to learn about the city and to get the lay of the land.

Another one is to take the bus to Rheigoldswil. From there you can walk to a cablecar station that takes you up to Wasserfallen. There is a restaurant at Wasserfallen but if you follow the footpath signs to. Waldweide there is a mountain hut run by the Swiss Alpine Club. We spent quite a few Sundays there drinking a cold beer with a view of the Alps and clunking cow bells. One time we went, a group of folks turned up and assembled Alphorns that they proceeded to toot away on. Postcard Switzerland on your doorstep. An alternative route is to take the small gauge train to Waldenburg and climb up to Waldweide that way - depends on how energetic your kids are.

Cheers,
Nick

Have you ever been to the Dreiländereck, where you can travel between three countries in a matter of seconds? It's a short visit, but I really liked it as a kid.
