Weekend away suggestions?

looking to go away for weekend and having a serious lack of inspiration. Bored of all the usual French, German and italian cities within 3 or 4 hour drive and cant do any mountain or sporting activities as girlfriend had a knee op recently.

Any suggestions? Sights, Shopping, spa or gastronomie ..

Re: Weekend away suggestions?

How about something, interesting, cheap, scenic and different ??

Book an overnight sleeper to Budapest !! Enjoy superb food in Budapest, have a rest in the sleeper on the way there and back.

And somewhere uite different from 'normal' Europe for eating, gentle sightseeing ( think girlfriend's knee ) and of course local shopping.
SBB have associated hotels as well for the Saturday night stay.

Have fun.

mountain thermal baths + restaurant + train trip on the rhetic railways bernina train or similar alpine railways.
maybe instead of cities visit non-cities, italian agriturisms or something, valtellina, lakes in northern italy, wine areas...
herbstmesse in basel.

Re: Weekend away suggestions?

I like the train idea, though as it looks like a nice weather weekend also like to drive before winter sets in.

Think Somewhere round the northern part of lake Como is winning at the moment

Re: Weekend away suggestions?

Hi,

For a change of scenery, I recommend a short weekend in Scotland- flights to Edinburgh with Easy Jet from Basel/ Geneva daily, reasonable prices and breathtaking scenery of the old town of Edinburgh- quite unlike many places on the continent.

Yeah would love to go up there again mountain biking.

We ended up going to Lake Como near Menaggio in a nice small hotel Taverna bleu and enjoyed the sunshine on the balcony overlooking the lake

Good point.

Let me tell you mine: Palma de Mallorca off season. Heaven. Mild weather, not many tourists and lots to do and eat.

Surprisingly big amount of dog shit on the pavement, though. Meant to write to the powers that be or care to complain.
