Suggestions for a warm holiday (in Winter)

Hi All,
Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for a one week break over new years someplace warm (preferably with a beach) (max 4 hours with the plane). I really want to get away from the cold for a couple of days but cant think of anyplace interesting.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Sharm el Sheik is inexpensive, not far away, and the beaches
are really nice. There are always offers for 4Star hotels for
next to nothing!

Any of the Canary Islands will still be warm. Over the New Year isn't going to be cheap though!

Definitively Canary Islands. Good food, prices for all ranges, lot of sun, relatively safe (or as much as it culd be considering the world these days), good transportation, children and adult friendly. A town called Puerto Rico in the southern part of Gran Canaria is very nice.

I'd go to the Dead Sea..only four hours by plane. We went last year
during winter and it was so sunny and warm!Well worth it.We went to
the Jordanian side.Jordanians are so friendly and kind(and it's at peace
with Israel which is a plus for me).The cuisine is tasty and reasonably-priced.Floating in the Dead Sea is the most relaxing experience. There are
also many other attractions in Jordan(Petra,Wadi Rum etc)

Portugal is also great - good beaches, nice food, and close by (just over 2 hours from Basel to Faro in the Algarve).
Depending on what you want accommodation-wise I find a good place to get bargains is www.ownersdirect.co.uk Because you deal directly with the owners of the apartments, you can haggle

On the same theme: Anybody that knows about the Swiss charter market? Where do I find the charter companies that offer travels to the sun in January? Site in English, even? Or at least in Italian...?

You can either go to a travel agent or book on line.
If you google Kuoni or TUI, these two will have plenty of choice for winter sun.
