Clothing permitted thermal baths?

Hi guys,

Any suggestions for Thermal Baths where clothing is allowed (or even better, required?). I only know of the Caracella Therme in Baden Baden- and even that is clothing required on the ground floor, and clothing not allowed on the top floor.

Would appreciate any other suggestions!

Indy.

Re: Clothing permitted thermal baths?

Every single thermal bath in Switzerland I have been to required clothing.

So if you go to Bad Ragaz, Baden, Bad Zurzach and so on expect to wear something

Have fun.

Re: Clothing permitted thermal baths?

Standard thermal baths all require clothing in the main areas. Typically the sauna areas are naked zones though.

Some "special" thermals eg the Roman Irish baths in Scuol require nudity.

I wouldn't say everywhere. Certainly not in the Valais. The outside baths are fully clothed but the downstairs section in Saillon (VS) where all the saunas and steam rooms are it's clothing optional (but no bermuda length shorts). Many opt for the full birthday suit although there are always plenty of people fully covered. Similarly in Lavey (VS). The outside baths are covered but there is a section in the nordic pavillion where clothing is banned but a towel is obligatory and some folks cover up their modesty with a that.

Re: Clothing permitted thermal baths?

Maybe its me but I think it is totally normal that there is a difference between Sauna and Thermal bath:
Sauna is usually at least optional, more commonly without clothing.
A thermal bath, the pools with warm mineral water, is usually with clothes...

Re: Clothing permitted thermal baths?

I find the Rheinfelden baths real nice. Clothing is compulsory everywhere except in the sauna area. And you can avoid the sauna area altogether.

Have a nice time, weather is just perfect today for soaking in a bath...

Re: Clothing permitted thermal baths?

Last year we went to Hotel Therme in Vals.

It was fantastic. everybody wore some kind of swimming costume; I cant remember what people wore in the Sauna, but we used towels .

That's my experience too.

Again, that's my experience.

For any families reading this it's worth pointing out that wherever I've been, kids aren't allowed in areas where clothes off are an option. That may exclude families from saunas/steamroom area. I've seen some families with kids get very uptight when they're refused entry to sauna areas.
