| | | Any ideas on what to do this weekend.
Hi Guys
I'm stuck on ideas on what to do this weekend. Me and my husband want to do something that would take most of the day and our 19 months old daughter would also enjoy.
We are from the Zurich area and don't have a car so it would need to be something that we can get to by public transport.
We have already had couple of days at Zurich zoo so we would rather not go there again and I am stuck on other ideas on what to do.
Have any of you had a family day out recently that you may feel other families would enjoy.
Thanks in advance.

..what about the train to Wädenswil and then get the lovely old train up to Einsiedeln where you can visit the church and monastry, they've got horses & stables there too. There's nice walks down by the lake too, there's a few restaurants there if you want to stay the day and check out the post buses from Einsiedeln as you can get to the cable car to go up the moutains.

Loads of fun for the whole family (but mostly for the husband ): http://www.verkehrshaus.ch/
Also if you stop off at Luzern don't forget to walk along the famous wooden bridge (Kapellbrücke):

Wheels screech again already though owing to the steep gradient and curves but it is much more comfortable that the old ones were. View over Lake Zürich as you go up the hill is great.

Have you done much on public transport ?
- train to the top of Uetliberg and then walk to the peak (which is only a 10 minute walk, perhaps 20 if the toddler is walking themselves, and it's pram-friendly). there's a playground at the top near the train station, and a couple of restaurants if you don't want to take a picnic.
- ferry or train to Rapperswil, feed the ducks, go to the children's zoo...the Kinderzoo is great!
- round trip Mt Rigi - all trains, big and little ones, then a ferry across the lake back to Luzern...not much walking and even if it's cold you can be 'indoors' in the heated trains and ferry... also, the Rigi Kulm hotel has a cafeteria - you enter the hotel right from the train stop and the view out the window of the cafeteria is great...
Next on our list is a day trip to Luzern, and a trip to Stein am Rhein
We also did the Kyburg castle - it was excellent - probably not so fantastic for a 20 month old, but kid-friendly...lots of steps up and down and you have to leave the pram with the ticket office, so if you aren't interested in carrying your child up and down and they won't walk too far...maybe not. On the other hand, we only went for a couple of hours...

Ah yes, that is true - I think the Zurich ferries are all in the 'wine festival' this weekend (well, they were last weekend)..."Expovina" - zurich ferries - http://www.zsg.ch/
Not sure what happens in Luzern...SBB seems to think they are still running - might be not so many... http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/traininfo...urneyEndIdx=4& | | This user would like to thank swisspea for this useful post: | |

Here is a list of places around Zurich that I used to love going to when I was a child:
Swiss Science Center in Winterthur (Technorama): www.technorama.ch
Transport Museum in Lucerne: www.verkehrshaus.ch
Giant Slide in Atzmännig: www.atzmaennig.ch
Alpamare Waterpark: www.alpamare.ch
Go sledding on Mount Rigi: www.rigi.ch
The zoo for children in Rapperswil: www.knieskinderzoo.ch
However, your daughter is probably still a bit too young for most of these activities. I went to Atzmännig with my three year old cousin this summer and it was a lot of fun, but I'm afraid the slide is not open this late in fall.

At 19 months - everything that mommy & daddy do is fun, even going to the park.
In Zurich you can go to Museum Rietberg - both Park and & Museum are nice.
In Baden : the Children's musuem is nice too ( www.kindermuseum.ch/)
Now is your chance to enjoy art, in a few short months she'll demand her own entertainment.

I particularly like the look of the Science Centre.
