| | | jungfrau day
Hello!
I would like to go to Jungfraujoch this saturday. My question is...what Ticket is better?
The Railaway offers has a 150.80CHF to go from zurich. Normal in SBB page is 153.90CHF, but If I get the 1 day pass, 63CHF until inteelaken and there go up is around 90 (not sure?).
Yes, I know...all them are around the same price but the 1 day pass probably allow me to stop somewherelse If I like...not sure either. The railaway offer include entrance to the ice palace (i do not know how much cost normally).
What do you think? and what you recomend me for things MUST SEE OR DO in the jungfraujoch for a perfect day??? I am caming back home at night (not sleeping in the region).
Thanks,
Seyon

This is a great idea for a day trip, particularly with good weather.
So you know, on the weekend you can travel with a 9 o'clock day pass for 54 CHF instead of paying 63 CHF. (Yes, even if you leave before 9:00 in the morning: that restriction only applies to weekdays.)
I'd recommend going via Luzern and taking the train over the Brunig Pass. It's much more scenic than travelling via Bern, and takes about the same amount of time. (Both trips are around five hours.)
Given the number of hours you'll be spending on the train, I'm not sure you'll have much spare time to do a lot of sightseeing. I'd recommend that you get out and stretch your legs in Wengen for a bit, which is a much nicer town than Interlaken.
Happy travels!
Heather
PS-A day pass will get you as far as Wengen, so you'd need to fork out for the Wengen-Jungfraujoch leg of your trip on top of the 53 CHF day pass.

Thank you Heather!
I thought that the train from Luzern was more expensive (Goldenpassline). So, if we go till wengen with the day pass, can we buy there the rest of the journey?...which is still expensive. (if weather is bad we can just stay around there or back to interlaken)
Onces up in the really top..there is any great thing to do apart of the views (I hope to have nice weather). I heard something about visiting the falls of the glacier...and the ice palace...are these things well indicated there?
Thank you again!!! I am so excited!!

It is going to be a very long day if you plan to return the same day. You are looking at around 5 hours travelling each way.
I would recommend setting out really early to make the best of it. Even a 5.00 am start from Zurich isn't too early. The cloud tends to build up later in the day. If you only have a short time there I would recommend the Sphinx Observatory Platform and a walk out onto the glacier. The Ice Palace would be next on my list. Make sure that you have warm clothes and sunglasses.
If you want to get a good idea of all the activities there, you really need at least 4 hours. If you could get overnight accomodation in Wengen, for instance, it would make a great weekend trip and you would appreciate it without being too tired out with a long day. After all, it is not the sort of trip that people do regularly, so it would be a shame to miss out on things.
Have a good trip whatever you decide.

By the way, Jungfrau tourism does a special deal with a nights hotel stay and the trip up to the top for quite a reasonable price. I took my girlfriend on that package for her Birthday in November.
Unfortunately it was too windy and the train was not running the whole way to the top. We have the vouchers to use the next time we are in the area though.

5 in the morning??? :msnblus h: Sorry...I love to sleep.
I was thinking more in something like going at 8-9 am, so we arrive at 12.30-13.30. The last train down is at 16.40 so we have more than 3h minimun to enjoy everything up-there (I think I will freeze before anyway...).
It sounds good for me, thank you all. We prefer not to sleep there because the budget just go to far for our limit...I do not mind to have a tired day, still Sunday after to recover!!
All wish good weather for me on saturday please!

Does the GA for a day for CHF 63 include the mountain railway to Jungfraujoch?
My advice - check out the visibility on the station monitor before getting on the train. I've been up there a few times and once the monitor was switched off. At the top you couldn't even see your own hand held out in front of you! Cheeky to switch off the monitor though.
Fantastic on a good day though. Don't forget the sunscreen.

There might be a few objections, but certainly not ones that are part of a ski area.

These railways serve as a regular means of public transportation for the town residents, and as such are part of the 'regular' travel network. This is why you can get to Grindelwald, Wengen, Murren, Zermatt, etc. on a regular day pass without paying a supplement.
Mountain railways that only serve tourists aren't part of the national travel network, and exist to make money, which is why you will (almost) always have to fork out for them even if you have a GA or day card. Examples of such railways are the Jungfraujoh, Pilatus, Rigi and the Gornergrat.
Anyway. Just so ya know....

You can always sleep on the train. It would be a shame to use your budget and miss out on something because of lack of time. There are plenty of opportunities to warm up indoors between different areas. By 4.00 pm I guess that it will be cooling off quite fast.

Hello!!
I am back from the Jungfrau. Yesterday was the perfect sunny day...so beautiful. We enjoy a lot during the day. Jungfrau is amazing.
The day only got wrong when we were caming back, i started feeling very bad. I have a horrible headache...like my head were exploting. Nothing similar to a pain I could remember. Once back in zurich i was feeling like i was going to die and my husband bring me to the emergency of the hospital...where they did not give me anything, my blood analysis so everything fine. I cam back home 4 on the morning and now i still have the pain on the left side of my head. What can i do to feel better? it could be because of the altitude??
Thank you for everything

Glad that you had a good day and that it was sunny. It is such a shame for people who make the special journey and encounter bad weather.
Sorry that you are not feeling well. It could easily be altitude and sun as mentioned. This can also cause dehydration. Rest and fluids (not alcohol) should help if this is the problem.

Does anyone know a good way to predict what the conditions will be like at Jungfraujoch? We have some friends visiting from the US and are thinking of going tomorrow. We will check the webcams before leaving but probably they will not be useful at 6am. Weather.com predicts partly cloudy at the moment... Any other useful tips / weather sites to check?

Saturday would be a better day to go.
There is also a possibility of strong NW wind. If the wind picks up as strong as my forecast is saying (Gale force gusts) they may not run the trains up to the top. They turned us around because of this when we tried to go in November.
In my opinion Saturday has a better chance of you getting up top and having a good view.

I checked the webcam at 6.30am and it was possible to see that it was a pretty good day.
In the case of some clouds, our B-plan was to buy the ticket only untill interlaken and ones there we see the real weather with our owns eyes, and then buy the tickets...
You have to take the risk.

My crystal ball tells me you may be ok tomorrow but Saturday may be better. Could be the opposite though. Shouldn't be any precipitation either day.
