Does anyone know of an English language photography school or group in the area? If not, is anyone here interested in getting together from time to time as part of group, to exchange tips and techniques, participate in photo taking projects and share your results. All with the objective of improving your photography.

This is not a commercial advert. I bought a digital SLR last summer and was immediately frustrated by the pictures I was taking. I attended a short course in London (UK) last autumn which gave me an understanding of the technical side, but I want to improve my composition and generally challenge myself with the camera.

Ooops!!! didnt intend to confuse you guys with my earlier post but I meant I am not really happy with the current use of my camera (basically taking pictures left right and center without not much technical thought).

We already have 3/4 interested people - I guess that meets the criteria for a group.

Any suggestions on a name for this group or am I counting my egss before they've hatched....

What do you guys think of Basel, I'm quite excited about my new job but plenty of posts on this topic.

Im also interested in meeting up... im currently evaluating whether i shud go for a full fledged dslr such as the canon eos 1000d (beginner model) or go for a prosumer model with super zoom (panasonic lumix dmc fz 28)...

would be glad in meeting up and learning about photography in general...

Hi, I wondered the same and now I have both! I started by getting a Panasonic as you mentioned, I really enjoyed the compact nature of the camera and although it had a lot of manual settings I have to say that eventually I became frustrated with it. I still use it from time to time, as well as a really small Panasonic I can put in my pocket, but I don't think you can beat a DSLR is you want to develop your interest in digital photography. That's my personal opinion.

Looks like we have the makings of a club here !! . Maybe we should arrange a monthly meet one month in Basel and one month in Zurich,. Id be happy to help organise this , with other members. Both for information on use of camera , and in regular meets to actually use the camera. Im away on the 11th so cant be there then .

Also in Basel, and would be interested in an informal D-SLR photo group. Had my Olympus E-Series for over a year and still learning...

Maybe a social event should be posted to test the waters.... Will try and get some feedback from tonights "Basel Curry" event for a photograph based event.
