| | | Sketching in Switzerland
Hey everyone,
I'm new to this site but would like to contribute to all the nice ideas out there. Some may have heard that recently, Zurich hosted the http://www.ed-awards.com/ which showcased the work of many talented graphic designers. This event along with a friend who attended have inspired me to get back into drawing.
In my background, I studied graphic design a bit and have done some freelance. As much as I liked playing with Adobe CS, I still like good ol' pen and paper. And I know I have lots of room for improvement. When I studied a bit in Florence, Italy, my favorite class was where we would explore the city and draw whatever we felt like.
So... likewise, inspiration should be found around here too. And these are some details of what I am thinking: - Twice a month (more if interest rises) for an afternoon/day in or near Zurich
- Visit museums, zoos, scenic places, etc. for inspiration... besides transport, would be the only fees involved but group rates could be possible
- Not limited to sketching (also charcoal, paint, photography, etc.)
- A website to showcase and share works
- More ideas if you have them?
Of course, you don't need to be a professional to come, but it would be nice if you came ready to learn/teach and not uneasy about drawing in public places (and having people stare at you ).
I searched the threads and didn't see a topic like this... sorry if I am mistaken. Also, I chose this forum over Meetup since I would like feedback before I proceed with organizing anything. Hope to hear from those interested!
Thanks,

Excellent idea.
I'm pretty useless but need a kick like this to get back into it.
I'd be interested but it would also depend on when due to to family / work commitments.
I'll keep an eye on the thread

I would also be interested in this, I did a year at art college but ended up following another passion and ended up working in IT. Over the year I keep picking my pencils up and working on the occasional project and I would like to get into sketching with watercolour.
As always, meetings like this depend heavily on work and family commitments.

Cool.
I am not very good at drawing, I like Illustrator more but... I might be interested in this.
I need to practice (because I am totally out of this), find my old sketches (I wanted to study architecture few years ago) and than... I might join you.
I need to see your work and I will decide than (just kidding)

Great... I knew there had to be some artists out there. =)
The family and work commitments are definitely valid. I work full-time during the weekdays, too. However, when we have a small group, we can try to work something out with everyone's schedules (i.e. Doodle). And there's nothing wrong if family members want to join, too.
I can share a few pages out of my sketchbook from last year. Nothing that recent here, but hopefully that will change soon. | | This following 2 users would like to thank jetsedder for this useful post: | |

Hi this is great! I'm moving to Geneva in a couple of months. Does anyone know of any art groups? Really looking forward to getting back into drawing, painting and mixed media. Thanks!

Hi,
Sounds like a top idea to me. I'm game. The Mark Manders exhibition at Kunst Haus Z, looks rather interesting. It's on for quite some time so perhaps we could head over as a group- sketch books in hand (?)

Nice work, everyone! I'm glad to see that there's definitely some serious talent out there. And it will be even more satisfying and amazing when we hone our skills together. The Kunst Haus is a definite possibility. I was just there last Tuesday and plan to check out Van Gogh in Basel this weekend.
Which reminds me that... starting tomorrow, it will be harder for me to reply to posts until Monday (due to personal travel) but don't take the silence as discouragement. It'd be wonderful to come back and catch up on new posts. I may have a sketch or two share from my travels as well.
Ciao!

Van Gogh in Basel was nice! I definitely recommend it if anyone has the time to make it out there. Also, I visited Florence again and was able to gather some more inspiration from the Medici Chapels. Here's a sketch from the trip next to an older one I am more proud of:
Left - Dawn + Dusk, pen (quick sketch in museum, standing), 2009
Right - David, pencil (from photo, sitting), 2006 > used to only use pencil... of course, it's cleaner. =P
Well, now that I am back, it's time to try to figure out a good time for everyone. I am thinking of having the first meeting the 2nd week of June.
Possible locations are:
> Zurich Zoo - http://www.zoo.ch/xml_1/internet/en/.../d409/f412.cfm
> Kunsthaus Museum - http://www.kunsthaus.ch/en/informati...es/collection/
Note: Wed. happens to be a day where entrance is free to the Kunstmuseum to the collection. Limits to media (i.e. no photograhy, paints, etc.)
For dates, it would be Wed (Kunsthaus only), Sat and Sun. Please input your availability here: http://www.doodle.com/teruaymr6kxur6s4
As said before, family/friends are welcome too. And most importantly, this is informal, meaning that you may stay for however long or short that you'd like. 2 hrs was just an easy way to split it up and seems about right. Even just coming to get inspiration for a personal project would be possible. Hope to have the first gathering of artists soon!
Ciao,
Edward
