The lighter side of life.......

Someone sent me a list of things to do in and around Zürich, one that stood out was :

Lenzburg Castle- Lenzburg Castle is excellent, with a baby dragon, dungeon, instruments of torture and a childrens' dressing up and play area in the attic.

Ahhhhh, brings back memories of when I was a kid, I loved playing in the attics and dungeons with my instuments of torture...

Worth a laugh!

Re: [Day Trips] Recommendations (from Zurich area)?

a bit off-topic but i saw mention of the halbtax and wanted to add that you can get 1 month halbtax cards for 99 CHF, photo not necessary. i got it for my parents when they came here for 2 weeks and we saved more than we spent. just a return trip from zurich to geneva and you already pay off the card. or if you're going to interlaken and jungfraujoch - the train up is expensive but the halbtax gets u a discount.

i took them on a round trip tour - dropped by lausanne for a night, then on to montreux. and then a panoramic train to near gstaad (chateu d'oex actually). after 2 nights there (it snowed at the end of march so we had great views) we went to interlaken (also on the golden pass scenic route with panoramic trains http://goldenpass.ch/). and then back to zurich. if you have more time you could drop in bern on the way to lausanne, and luzerne on the way back to zurich from interlaken. all that was about 80CHF (with halbtax) because i bought a return ticket to lausanne but via interlaken. you're allowed to break the journey over 10 days if i'm not mistaken, as long as you dont buy a one day return card of course

happy travels!

City Break

Hi, I live in Zurich but my grandparents are visiting me for 3 days this weekend. They are healthy but in their mid/late 70's (climbing up a mountain possibly not the best thing) The weather is going to be warm but showers are likely. The first day they are going to take a boat trip on Zurich lake. But I have to come up with something for Saturday and Sunday. Any suggestions?

Zgiles

Why not take them up the Säntis mountain? It is about an hour away from Zürich, by car or by train and Post bus, it's not the highest mountain in Switzerland, (2505 m) but it is truly impressive as it pops out of the Alpine foreland all on its own, and as it is not surrounded by equally high peaks, the views are unsurpassed. There is a gondola all the way to the top, and once up there you can sit in the restaurants, go for a little walk, or just admire the athletic Swiss geriatrics leaping from ledge to ledge.

Cheers

Jim
