I am posting this on behalf of Wädi Rollt, who are pleased to welcome members of this forum from all parts of Switzerland to explore this city and take advantage of complimentary bike rentals.

The bike station is conveniently located very close
to the Bahnhof Wädenswil and a major shopping centre ( cnr. of
Poststrasse and Zugerstrasse ).

Operating hours are 7 days a week, commencing from 07:00 to 21:00
until end October and staffed by knowledgeable and friendly personnel.

All that is required is your ID ( photo ID is a must ), fill in a simple form
with some details and a refundable deposit ( min. CHF20/- depending on bike type ).

There is no rental fee for safety helmets, buggy, child seat and for most bikes ( exceptions are the Yamaha PAS E-Bike and a Chopper Bike ).

They also have disabled friendly bikes upon special request.

Reservations are also possible. Call the mobile number provided below
at least 24 hours ahead, or for EF members only, send me a PM with the
subject heading [WR Reservations] complete with contact numbers (
residence and mobile ), address, ID type ( please indicate Photo ID
type - GA, Driving License, Permit etc. with serial number ) and I'll
forward it to the operations office.

I like this idea a lot. Wädenswil is easy to get to, frequent trains from Zürich, Pfäffikon etc. and is good cycling country. You can choose a flat bit along the lake - perhaps to Rapperswil - they've improved the cycle track over the Seedam a bit so it's not as dangerous as it used to be. Or you can be a bit more daring and go up the hill towards 'Telly Tubby Country' (DB's very apt description of the area) where there are green rolling hills. There's little traffic on the minor roads and you'll find a lovely bench up by Egg (near Tanne - Schönenberg) where you can sit and gaze over the lake...

Who says Switzerland is expensive! Have used this free bike hire the other day and look forward to trying this again. There are plentiful cycle tracks and certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to spend a great day out with the family or a few friends in the good weather without having to spend fortunes. Book in advance to avoid disappointent

Photo ID ( Driving license, passport, permit or GA ) and a tiny fully refundable deposit is all that is required.

As a local I can highly recommend finishing the ride at Waedi Brau (http://www.waedenswiler.ch/). It is pretty close to the bike rental place, so you can drag your bike there in case it looses it's balance

All E-bikes have been reserved, including on Whit Monday. Yes, the bike station is open as usual this Monday 24th 9am to 9pm - conventional city bikes and kids bikes are available.

Does anyone know when this restarts this year? We are looking for something to do over the easter break. This would be great!!

It restarts in Spring - they operate in Thalwil and soon in Rapperswil.

I just got wind that they commence on Tuesday 26.04 with newer stock of bikes.

The season has begun and the demand over the weekends is overwhelming.

Any idea whether visitors to the country can hire them as well (with a local accompanying them having a valid I.D. card)?

Yes, they can and frequently utilise the service.

EU citizens - your valid ID / Passport is good enough.

Non-EU ( incl. US, AU etc. ) - only a valid passport is acceptable.

CH citizens and residents - your valid driving license, passport, residence permit or alternatively the GA ( sorry, no Halbtax card ) is acceptable.

As of 26.04, there were 116 foreigners who had used the service ( 85% resident in CH, more than 1/3 from outside Canton Zurich )

Currently it is open 7 days a week, 9am to 9pm and from 01.06 Mondays to Fridays, it will be a little earlier from 7.30am and closing at 8.30pm ( a lot more locals tend to use earlier to work etc. from June end end October ).

They also provide home delivery service from Coop and from a nearby Market Place ( Hauslieferungdienst at CHF4 to your doorstep within the locality ).

The season has ended for this year. Reopening anticipated for next April towards the last week.

The season begins this Tuesday 24th April and lasts until the last Sunday of October.
