Hello EF people,

My husband has been playing D&D for 20 years I think (we know he is a geek so don't bother pointing it out ). I moved to Basel 1 month ago but hubby will be coming in the end of August.
Would anyone be interested in joining a D&D gaming group to get together once every two weeks or once every month, our place (@Basel).

You are confusing the term "geek" with "nerd" methinks.

I do however wish him luck, though I can't forsee much enthusiasm on EF for it.

He does know about World of Warcraft? Or is he still playing games on his ZX Spectrum?

People still play D&D?! Wow. Unless there's live-action and skimpy clothing, I'll stick to video games.

You can't beat dice based (A)D&D with a good Dungeon Master - it wipes the floor with any computer version such as WOW or Second Life or whatever breed you wish. There is more expression, interaction and dare I say it human contact with genuine Dungeon and Dragons role playing. I used to love it though haven't played for several years.

I used to play it for quite awhile too until I had family........

Ok Ok I should have written nerd but chose geek (sounds more elegant ).
We both play World of Warcraft but he still used to get together with his friends every 2-3 weeks for a good ol' D&D game in the Netherlands.
I did not join cause my Dutch is not that good, it usually turned to be quite a fun night with friends and a few drinks.

I do wonder if my D&D boxes are still in my parents' basement. The red box and the blue box. Although a massive geek, I wasn't nerdy enough to truly become obsessed with it. Video games took over.

As MikeB mentioned, the direct human interaction is nice, as with board games. However, with the internet, it is more complex and fun to interact with more people, especially those you don't know.

Do you realise that there are probably a minimum of 3 billion men who have been waiting all their life to meet a bonafide Nerd Queen who actually wants to play WoW and D&D? Seriously, you are probably worth more in equivalent monetary terms to the drooling slobbery nerd crowd out there than Miss World is to other men. You are quite possible nearly a deity in this respect.

Well to be fair, D&D roleplaying does involve getting out and meeting people*.

Just out of curiosity, have any of you played dikuMUD ever ? I was addicted to that at University to a level that would have put your local smack addict to shame.

There are weirdos everywhere...I have never played dikuMUD but will search what it is...sounds interesting!

its one of the first on line multiplayer Multi User Dungeons. The bridge if you like between AD&D and then through MUD's then into the graphical Multi User Environements you see today. dikuMUD is just a variation there were many, but diku was one of the originals.

I used to play at uni, too bad you guys are a bit out of reach...

Me and my hubby play WOW blah blah - and would love to play D&D - but basels a hike from here... if you ever move to Neuchatel/Biel area though... lol
