Best Travel Guide for Switzerland

I'm interested in touring Switzerland late October. Can anyone recommend a good travel guide to the country? (books, websites)

I don't intend rent a car, so my main mode of transportation would be by rail/bus...

Thanks!

Yeah.
you've opened it already.
Try doing a search on this forum.
You will find a wealth of information, ideas, useful phrases, hotels, bike routes, train routes, restaurants, days out, drinking holes and and and.............

Would reccommend buying a 'Half-Tax' Rail Card. (Valid One Year for 149chf, i think). Its gonna be worth it in the long run.
peace.

For an excellent discussion of the various options see Travel Passes for Visitors.

Here are a few basic starting points.

My Switzerland

About CH

SBB As a visitor, you would be best to get a Swiss Pass, for rail, buses, museums and most lake cruises. It also gives 50% fares for most cable cars

Brandt books, Switzerland Without a Car! http://www.bradt-travelguides.com/details.asp?prodid=79

I moved to Zurich almost 4 weeks ago and Im sooo happy I bought this book! Its fantastic not just for rail travel, but also for busses, biking, hiking and city trams. One problem I have with it is that it does not include the prices for restaurants it suggests, train prices, and so on, this is the only problem. It is still a very thoughful book, organized incredibly well with a great index, it even tells you which side of the train one should sit on for the best view! Definitley get the halbtax, and if you are under 25, get the track 7 pass for free travel after 7pm (except on the ZVV).

Re: Best Travel Guide for Switzerland

Thanks, guys! - I've combed through the forum archives, and this forum certainly has been much more helpful than the usual run-of-the-mill guidebooks. I wasn't very happy with the Lonely Planet guide - Lauterbrunnen had barely a mention!
