The annual
desalpe (when the cows come down from the mountain pasture) will be help in
Blonay next Saturday (26th).
They will arrive in the area know as
Grand Pre at about 14h30 after parading through the village from the direction of the
route des Pleiades.
The
Grand Pre is the field behind the
Château-de-Blonay railway halt where there will be a canteen (opening at 11h), brass band, alp horns etc and, no doubt, much sampling of the local wines !.
If coming by car from the direction of St Legier, pass the first railway crossing just below the château, pass the church and there is a car park, on the right just before the next railway crossing. If that’s full there’s another one, on the left just after the crossing and the field where the cows will arrive is behind this. There’s also a third one straight over the next roundabout on the right.
If arriving by train from Vevey get off at the
Château-de-Blonay halt which is one stop before Blonay station.
If you want more entertainment then the Blonay-Chamby Railway Museum is worth a visit. You take a picturesque ride in an old train (including some steam trains) up to the museum. It departs from Blonay station where there is a ticket office for the museum trains.
