[Day Trip] to St. Moritz

Hi,

I am planning to go for a day to St. Moritz. Am looking for ideas on what to do there. I had planned on a hike but if there is any other thing that would be interesting, it would be good to know.

Or anywhere in Graubunden would also be good, that said I have already been to Davos.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [Day Trip] to St. Moritz

As a town, I don't think that St. Moritz has much to offer unless you are really wealthy and love designer fashion shops.

The walk around the lake is nice. It is not a huge lake and it is an easy walk right round. There are the obvious mountain hikes etc.

The best part of St. Moritz for me was the train leaving there. The Bernina Express is fantastic.

Re: [Day Trip] to St. Moritz

If zou are not afraid of heights, you can do the walk from Thusis to the Via Mala gorge. It will take you over a 25 meter long hanging bridge, (Via Traversina) and the trip is ca. 10 km.

I have not done the whole trip, but the view was amazing in the via mala gorge.

Doc.

Re: [Day Trip] to St. Moritz

As it is quite far by train from Basel is a day trip possible? Will there be time to enjoy St. Moritz upon arrival, or is a weekend trip a better idea?

Re: [Day Trip] to St. Moritz

St Moritz was a massive disappointment the first time I went there. I have been since many times for skiing as it high and snow sure, but this also means that at 1700 metres it is near the tree line and fairly bare without snow.

The valley is wide and open, the mountains do not tower over the village, like say Zermatt. St Moritz' architectural style is concrete and flat roofs.

All that said a walk up to the Hannensee and beyond may well be worthwhile...

Re: [Day Trip] to St. Moritz

It can be done in a long day (out at 6am, back at midnight), but a stay over might be more fun.

There's nothing really worth seeing in the town itself other than designer boutiques. I think the best way to enjoy St. Moritz is to get on a chairlift asap to somewhere prettier and go for a walk

The train journey there is pretty picturesque too!
