Favorite weekend and day trips from Geneva: New to Switzerland, New to EF

Hello. I am a college student interning and taking classes in Geneva. I have been here almost 3 weeks and will be in Geneva until the end of November. I work Monday-Thursday and have class on Friday until noon, after that my weekend begins! I am looking for suggestions/advice for day trips or weekend trips. I have the Swiss 1/2 pass and am looking to travel within Switzerland and beyond, it is just a little difficult because I do not have much free time and want to make the most of it. I am looking for a mix of activities and a, really open to trying anything! I love hiking, museums, shopping, music, culture, food, going out and just generally have a good time! I am on somewhat of a tight budge (poor college student living in one of the most expensive places in the world ) I am only here a short while and though I would look to some experts (you all) for help! So far I have been to Gruyere, Lausanne (but only or a short while), Munich, and Interlaken.

Thank you!!!

Hi,

For museums, Basel is a good place. The van Gogh exhibition was on till 27-Sep. And from 24-Oct onwards for two weeks, there's the HerbstMesse or Autumn fair, supposed to be good fun.

I would also recommend Luzern, a very beautiful city. Plus there are lots of hikes around that area e.g. hike to Pilatus and back (you save on cable car charges ) or Rigi.

Happy Daytripping,
Nikky

Annecy is an easy trip from Geneva, about 25/30 minutes by car (longer by bus) and is definitely pretty, with some decent shopping in the town centre.

Lyon is about 1.5 hour train trip and is a great place to visit for culture, food, and shopping.

Have fun!

I would definitely go to Lyon, as recommended by Nickyboy. Also Milan or Turin, they are only about 3 hours away. Paris is also an option if you take TGV on a Friday afternoon. Annecy you can do in one afternoon and it is the prettiest little town in the neighbourhood.

In Switzerland, I heard that Basel is interesting but have never been there. I find that, being so close to France and Italy, there is not much reason to go further into Switzerland.
