Where to skiing in CH (best value)

Hello all,

My husband and I are planning to go skiing for a week with some of his family next year. The plan is to rent a chalet/hut or a couple of apartments so that we wouldn't have to eat out all the time. We'll be 6-8 persons.

Any recommendations for where to go if we want to keep it at a reasonable price level (if possible )? I have never skied but the rest of the family are apparently quite good at it - 2 of them are pre-teens.

Appreciate your input!

Frau Dreyer

Re: Where to skiing in CH (best value)

Dear Frau Dreyer,
I have a 3 bedroomed, large ,' on piste' chalet apartment to rent in Adelboden, which is a beautiful and friendly place to ski. it was completed in 2008 to the highest standards and it has all the charm and comfort of a traditional chalet with the added benefits of 21st century appliances and technology.
It is available as a fully catered chalet or as bed and breakfast accommodation.
Bed and breakfast guests are welcome to make themselves other meals if they so wish. You can see the details on my website http://web.me.com/lynnrobinson2. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Kind regards
Lynn Robinson

Mrs Robinson you have a WONDERFUL chalet!

Mrs Dreyer, should you wish for more alternatives:
http://www.interhome.ch/homepage.aspx?lCode=EN-CH
this is a website with Chalets all over Europe to rent.

http://www.hotelplan.ch/Reisen/Reisearten/Schnee/ this page is only in GERMAN or FRENCH but you can get great PACKAGE deals:
http://www.hotelplan.ch/ferienangebo...auschalen.html
You have to click through each one to find out the deals but some of them even include breakfast and dinner and include other facilities such as swimming pool and sauna.

Click HERE for an example of a Hotel in Davos which has ski packages starting at 575 CHF per person, this includes:
5-Day-Skipass Region Davos-Klosters (Mo–Fr).
5 Nights in a Double room inluding Breakfast buffet.
3x 4-Course Evening meals.
1x Farmer's buffet (evening Meal) on Sunday.
1x Cheese Fondue or Fondue Chinoise on Wednesday.

Have fun searching.

I love Veysonnaz in Valais.

Great for families, not too many people and linked to 400 km of skiing including Verbier

A gem...

Savognin is a very family oriented resort/villiage.

It has a good range for all levels of skiiers/riders.

I enjoyed it quite a bit last season, looking forward to riding soon again

Engelberg is cheap. Great for beginners, nice small village with everything in walking distance and many restaurants to choose from. We used to go there every year with friends from abroad. We rented a central apartment that slept 6 for CHF 140 a night that included our own washing machine and dryer so our guests didn't need to carry so many clothes. Ski pass is around CHF 59 for Titlis side and Klostermatt beginners lift is around CHF 20 a day.

Re: Where to skiing in CH (best value)

If you've got a car, it may be cheaper to go to France or Austria.
But if you don't, I would firstly recommend Grindelwald* as it is a resort that you and the kids will never forget. It's looks like a chocolate box and is very child / family friendly.

But if you're still not sure where to go skiing, following this and other advice, go to the main train station in Basel and ask at the Tourism section. They will tell you the best deals / resorts. Get a few prices / quotes.
Once they recommend one or two places, go home and call the Tourist Information of the two resorts (and Grindelwald), and ask them for best prices (either in the town centre or near the ski school - they will know which chalets are best located).

If going by train ask for Snow n Rail tickets at the travel desk at the station where you also get discounted ski lift pass and ski equipment hire.

So for good value, in summary I would ask the tourist information at the resort you select for the accomodation (at the price you want - not sure if they do self catering chalets) but the railway station for the best train, ski pass, ski hire deals.

Hope this helps (if you've got a car let us know so we can provide more info).

* wow when looking for snow n rail I saw this interesting item, looks fun, anyone tried it:

Re: Where to skiing in CH (best value)

Thanks all - we've started our search using the links and advice. Luckily we do have a car.

Turns out that the family is coming directly from another trip from Austria - any good recommendations for skiing in the eastern part of Switzerland?

Cheers!
