The holidays are coming and we plan some trips around. Given we have no car, I need to find a decent car rental company, that doesn't have a lot of small print gotcha contract that could ruin the festivities.

I have only seen one company - Patric Location, but am guessing there are more. Do you know a rent-a-car company you could recommend? Nothing fancy, good enough to seat 4 people and take us safe from A to B

Any comments and ideas are welcome

I'd say take whichever's cheapest and also take an additional car rental insurance from a 3rd party. I have a policy like this and got it from http://www.insurance4carhire.com/ (I think!!).

Also check your credit card as you might find you get a good discount. GA holders too - 30% discount on Europcar, for example.

I recently had my wedding down in Coppet (right outside Geneva) and several of our guests needed cars. The cheapest I found was actually www.budget.com picking up from the airport (GVA). This included basic insurance and unlimited km. My parents rented a car for 11 days and there were no hidden fees at the end.

Ebookers is also a good option, I found they were slightly more expensive but had better cars.

we rented a couple of times last year from one of the big names at Geneva airport, cant recall whether it was Avis or Hertz:

Either way what we learnt was to make sure you book from the french sector desk, not the swiss. Price from french sector is significantly cheaper. You can book over the internet, but we also found that ringing them to make the booking rather than doing it online also got us a significantly better quote. Both times we got a relatively new car and upgraded.

Has anybody rented a car at Geneva with a bike rack. I need to hire at the swis side and cannot find any option for a rack which is a shame. I am trying with this geneva car hire firm and am waiting for a reply from them.

When we organized our wedding in Suisse a couple of years ago, I did some research on rental companies from Geneva to Nyon...My research found that the cheapest rates were at the Geneva airport but at the french companies

If booking on the French side you probably won't get the vignette and you may not get the winter tyres, unless requested.
