Whiteturf in St. Moritz: is it worth to go?

Hey guys,

I am wondering if anyone of you could recommend the Whiteturf race in St. Moritz in February? I mean I am not a big fans of horse but I thought it would be a nice experience to see horses racing on a frozen lake. Must one buy a standing ticket at least to see anything? I thought to combine the day trip to see St. Moritz itself.

Was it overall a nice experience for you? What are the tips of dos and don'ts? Will appreciate any feedback! Thanks. :-)

I haven't gone yet but I am seriously considering it for this year. You need tickets (60 CHF) and you can get them here: http://dsb.whiteturf.ch/DSB_Anbieter...=1&ShowTitle=0

This is the main site:

Last year I think someone died but they seem to be OK with the precautions they put in place so the event should be the same again this year.

Re: Whiteturf in St. Moritz: is it worth to go?

It is an interesting event to go to, with some unique racing.
Its worth getting a ticket as the area they run is very large and so if youre watching from the town side youll struggle to see anything. The last turn or the finish line is the best place to be. Despite wonderful sunshine last year, it was very cold out there, so be prepared. The betting is a little strange...payout calculated ex-ante. Watching the fur coated jet-eratti prance around is also almost as fun as the horses.

Too bad I think I won't be able to go to see the race this year. Anyone interested in a Tageskarte Gemeinde for next Saturday (20.02.10) and Sunday (21.02.10), please send me a PM. I will let it go at the price I bought it.
