| Re: Skiing near Geneva?
Well, presuming that as visitors they'll be travelling by train then there are a couple of options, but the one that most expats and tourists prefer is Verbier. It's about an hour and 30 minutes from Geneva main station (Cornavin). To get there you take the mainline train to Martigny, changing for the mountain train to Verbier/Le Chable. At Le Chable you can hire ski equipment and buy a ski pass (better deals on the pass might be available at Cornavin, before boarding the first train).
There's a nearly circular blueish piste at a high station called l'Olympique. It's a good place to start if your friends aren't seasoned skiers. Otherwise Verbier is known for its off-piste skiing.
Lots of people prefer to take a bus (or hire car) to one of the French resorts, but given the strongish Euro I'd recommend they stay in Switzerland.
One more thing, as visitors maybe they'd rather have a very Swiss experience? When my sister visited and we were trying to pick a place to ski my friends pointed out that while I might know and love Leysin somebody visiting would probably have a more memorable experience in Zermatt skiing in the shadow of the Matterhorn.
