Hah. Grew up watching the Fur Rendezvous races in Anchorage and the Iditarod (before it gained a national audience). Good times.

Re: International sledge dog race

I was fortunate recently to have a chance to drive ? (it felt like I was been pulled ) a sled with 6 dogs. It was amazing the amount of power and noise from those dogs.
The closest I got to the Iditarod was reading the book
My Lead Dog Was A Lesbian: Mushing Across Alaska in the Iditarod--the World's Most Grueling Race.

Re: International sledge dog race

Hi There,

I found one more sledge race event at Kandersteg.

http://www.kandersteg.ch/english/ort/index.html

Have any EF member been here before and how would you rate it?
I don't find much details on the web page.

Wanted to go to such an event, that is nearer to basel (2h by train). Do any EF member know of sledge race event closer to Basel than the Kandersteg one?

Thanks in advance

Ashish

Re: International sledge dog race

Hey everyone, was wondering if its possible to bring my own dog there?

He will be on the lead of course, but I dont want to get dirty looks from other people if its frowned upon. I am really keen to go to one of these but dont like the thought of leaving him at home all alone for more than half a day either.

Anyone who's been to one of these races able to advise me?

Thanks in advance.

Guess they do not encourage extra dogs please see statement from the web site.

"Notice

Please do not bring your own dog into the racing area. If this is unavoidable, please ensure the dog remains on the lead and do not take it onto the racing track. Thank you for your cooperation."

Yes, I read that but I was wondering if anyone has actually been to any of these races and can advise if other people brought their own dogs along.

Sorry for being so anal, but I am just not keen leaving him all alone at home alone for most part of the day when it can be a great day out for the both of us. Little bugger needs to realise how lucky he is. Heh
