Dear All,

I have a continental airlines flight from Zurich to Newark schedule for 10h20am, in few days. The travel agency strongly advices me to be present atleast 2.5 hours before the scheduled departure time (or 7h50). I live in a small village in Baselland (Basel country) and that means I have to leave home ver early.

Would like to know the experience from EF members who travelled to the States from Zurich airport?

If you are travelling in economy class I would certainly allow two hours at least given how inconsistent the security checks are nowadays. If the lines are bad you will be glad you have the time. If the lines are not bad you will have time for a coffee and some duty-free shopping (or window shopping) before you board.

Last week I arrived at the check barrier at 6am and did not get to sit down to wait for the plane until 9am!

It was a very long wait. Take a good book or an ipod and your favourite music, if you don't want to go insane from stood around waiting.

This is a good question.
According to Department of Homeland Security procedures, citizens of certain countries undergo additional security. I work at Zurich airport and am very familiar with how things work these days. If you want to pm me, I can give you a few info which might help you.

Feedback from my experience, it took me an hour and 10 minues to clear all the formalities right from standing in the queue for the boarding pass and upto the departure gate.

In my perception, how a particular individual is handled at the security control is more likely based on the threat perceptions than other criteria.

I would suggest that Mr Arron try to put forth his views in the future in a neutral manner. I find it very annoying to read his post.
