This is on the thunersee - St Beatus Caves (Beatushöhlen). Worth a stop especially if you have kids. http://www.beatushoehlen.ch | | This user would like to thank Nanda for this useful post: | |

Many thanks for that Polorise.
We will soon be getting a Czechoslovakian (sp?) student coming to visit and she will be with us the whole day. I have been racking my brains as to what we should do for the day...
The Aareschlucht sounds like a great idea...

Reason: Spelling, I know it was wrong but it was Sunday after all.

The Aareschlucht sounds like a great idea... | | | | | You'll find that Czechoslovakia ceased to exist in 1993 when it split into Slovakia and Czech Republic. You might want to cement that before introducing your visiting student as Czechoslovakian to people, she is either Czech or Slovakian.

Unfortunately she is busy all week or would have gladly met with you for an hour or so for coffee.

Thanks for the links Polorise, you inspired us today to head off into the Bernese Oberland and after viewing the truemmelbach falls website decided to head to the famous Reichenbach falls - http://www.reichenbachfall.ch/ of Sherlock Holmes fame (not that i'd know much about this but my husbands a bit of a fan) anyway a nice day out so thought i'd add it to the list

One could buy the community/borough day ticket (Gemeinde tageskarte) and take the Golden Pass from Montreux to Zweisimmen. The view is simply breathtaking.

Not far from there is a lovely old hotel near to the Giessbach waterfall, great for romantic dinners overlooking the lake of Brienz and surrounding mountains - http://www.giessbach.ch/
Also, if you're feeling fit, try hiking up from Interlaken to the Faulhorn. It has a wonderful hotel on the summit - no heating, more of a glorified refuge - and offers magnificent views over to the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfraujoch. Also: sunrise, sunset, stars, solitude. http://www.berghotel-faulhorn.ch/

Reason: Er, I know the Faulhorn's in Grindelwald, but it's worth it...

Nicky | | | | | Hi Nicky,
How much water was in Truemmelbach? It's meant to really fill up. Been there three times and never had the luck so see it full but a week after one time we went, people were coming out soaking wet.

Hi Sorry Nanda we didn't actually go there, I looked at the link for Truemmelbach Falls that Polorise posted and it gave us the idea to visit the Reichenbach Falls instead.

Their restaurant is great too. Plus, for aviation buffs it is close to the Axalp range.

I would like to add the Schynige Platte and the Alpengarten.
I was going to do this trip on Sunday, but the weather was not suitable.
The Alpengarten is (according to my guidebook) one of the few places to see a real living Edelweiss...

I actually really enjoy the Ballenberg. Great if you're going with kids or pets. A really nice interesting trip through the various traditions of Switzerland. Quite pricey I think but definitely a good way to get an overview of the various buildings in Switzerland and how each Canton varies to another. There are BBQ spots there too . This is something for summer and people who like to walk but not really hike... |

| | | Re: Places to visit Bernese Oberland Blausee
went there yesterday, caught some rainbow trout & had them for supper ...
Great day out, also has nature trails for the kiddies, small adventure park & serves a wicked Alpenmaccaroni with Apfelmousse in the restaurant.
You can rent rod & obligatory net for 20 chf, all fish landed must be paid for - 22chf per kilo. Last day of the season is next Sunday.
