Best Time to visit Switzerland

Hi all,

What is the best time to visit Switzerland? I have pretty much seen the climat round the year in last year and thought springs are the bst times but was wondering how is July and otherwise what is the best time to visit the place.

This is for a family we are inviting to visit us for a month. They are a couple with a 2 years old lovely kid. Not into any kind of Snow sports.

Also are there any links to suggested trips or suggested planners. I tried looking at yahoo (travel) but nothing much. Any help, suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thanks
Gerek

Re: Best Time to visit Switzerland

Based on what you said then summertime would be a reasonable assumption.

To find tourist information about Switzerland you could start at http://www.myswitzerland.com, or look at the wikipedia pages, or any of the millions of tourism websites on the net. Or even as a last resort, dare I say it: Google.

Re: Best Time to visit Switzerland

also I'd say arrange their visit for when you can take time off. But I would assume you had already worked that out

Re: Best Time to visit Switzerland

Hi guys

Thanks a lot.

I think the whole purpose of I asking this question is grossly misinterpreted. I wanted opinion and information from people who live here and have invited families to visit switzerland and have experiences or opinions.

In most of these websites (my switzerland, travel.yahoo.com and thousand others) they will not give the best and most practical opinion on information but they will SELL to you as you are a potential customer (which is okay with me).

BTW, when you google "Best time to visit switzerland", the quality of search results in not so great. I thought interacting with people on this would be a better option.

Thanks

Re: Best Time to visit Switzerland

Have a look in the travel threads on this forum, plenty of day trip ideas.

If they don't like snow sports then summer would be best as you could visit the many outdoor pools or go swimming in the lake.

In terms of weather-consistency, I'd say June or late August / early September.

Re: Best Time to visit Switzerland

Hi, we are a family with 2 young kids living in the Rheintal and over the last 8 years we have often invited family and friends over with their young kids. Typically people with young kids preferred to come May-June or Sept as in the high summer months it can actually get a bit too hot especially for the under 2s and also - why have your holidays when the schools have theres unless the kids visiting are already in school and then you'll need to fit with their timetable anyway. Pleaces we liked to visit are in our area rather than Zurich where I think you are, however I'll tell you anyway :-) In Liechtenstein: Vaduz to see the castle and Malbun for mountain walking, also Erlebnispark is a good working farm and some kids like the go karting or pony riding. In Rorschach for a rainy day is Fägnäscht http://www.faegnaescht.ch/home.htm indoor playarea, there is Connyland with fun rides and dolphins, in Gossau, nr St Gallen the Walter Zoo http://www.walterzoo.ch/ can fill a whole day and you can bbq your own food or eat there, http://www.knieskinderzoo.ch/ Swimming at the lakes is alwys fun for out of towners, I think there must be many possibilities in Zurich, we like Caumasee on the way to flims-laax, just over the border in Austria there is the Feldkirch Wildpark - plenty of shade and free entry, Inatura in Dornbirn, there are indoor swimming places like Alpamare - Pfaffikon http://www.alpamare.ch/ and Santispark - St Gallen http://www.saentispark.ch/, if you want to drive a bit you can visit Europapark (a huge hit with parents and kids!) http://www.europapark.de/lang-de/c51/default.html , there is also another aquarium type park near bodensee/konstanz but I can't recall the name, we went once and it's also ok, as is insel minau near konstanz. Hope I could help! Enjoy the summer

July is said to be the best month for walking / hiking in the alps.
