[Tourism] Recommendations in Annecy?

We're thinking of heading down to Annecy for a night whilst the girls are on a weekend choir camp. Anyone have any recommendations for hotels/ guesthouses, restaurants, bars etc?
Cheers

Re: Recommendations in Annecy?

Do yourself a favour and go to Bistro Contresens in Annecy. It is young, casual but the food is outstanding and of Michelin guide quality. The owner has three restaurants in Annecy, 2 of which are 1 and 2 Michelin Guide establishments. Contresens is the Bistro.

It is also so affordable, you'll fall of your chair whenh you compare what you get for what you pay.

You will NOT be disappointed.

Contresens.

Stayed in the Mecure there.
Fairly decent hotel, reasonable breakfast and there was underground parking in a public carpark (although with a really low roof)
The rooms were ridiculously hot though and the aircon had been switched off because it was winter.
Pretty good location and the staff were friendly enough.

I loved the seafood platter here, if you are into clams etc, it was a pretty good deal (especially being used to CH prices).

Plus, this place had amazing seafood and great atmosphere, right on the canal.

As far as hotels, probably nice to stay by the canal. I stayed in a budget hotel out somewhere by the airport and drove into the center as there was alot parking there, central parking lot with a small charge and some free parking. Though, can get busy on weekends in the summer. Not a problem now. I tend to scrimp on hotels as I can sleep anywhere and go full bore on eating when in France.

Re: [Tourism] Recommendations in Annecy?

I can also recommend Auberge du Lyonnais, it is a very good seafood restaurant. If you are looking for just ordinary Savoyard food, then Le Lilas Rose, just a few steps ahead on the canal, is a very sweet, unpretentious place, with good raclette and plat du jour.

Then have coffee and sweets in Au Péché Mignon, 9 Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

As for hotels, if you are travelling by car and do not mind not staying a bit outside Annecy itself, this place is a real luxury treat: http://www.chateau-des-avenieres.com/fr/index.php Also on the splurge side is Marc Veyrat: http://www.marcveyrat.fr/

While we're on the subject of Annecy. If anyone feels like being decadent, celebrated Molecular Gastronomist Marc Veyrat is from Annecy.

See link to Marc Veyrat here

I can't recommend any places to stay, I always stay with friends.

Do visit the market in town on Sunday, it's fantastic!

Missus found a deal at the Hotel Belvedere, €85 for a double room for 1 night. We're heading there on Saturday, I'll let you know what it's like.

Re: [Tourism] Recommendations in Annecy?

Update: weekend cancelled (sort of). 20 mins shy of Annecy and wife discovered she had a missed call. Our youngest had been vomiting the entire morning at the choir camp, so we arranged for a neighbour to pick her. Had a quick scoot around the town, a bite to eat in Bistro Contresens, which was very busy and great food (if a little stingy on the portions) and headed back. Got stuck in the Auto Salon traffic in both directions, so 6 hrs motorway driving and 3 hrs in Annecy itself . Cute little town though (what we saw of it).
