Ultralight suitcases - Manor

Dropped by Manor Lausanne today and saw that they had a new line of ultralight weight soft-sided luggage on sale. As it is a new brand, I am not sure if it is a "one shot" purchase or not (so if interested, don't wait and complain later when it is sold out).

The issue of luggage weight is becoming more of a pain, and it is not just with the likes of Easyjet. It seems that all of the airlines are getting in on the act.

Check the weight of your own suitcases when empty. Most already weight 5+ kg. for larger sizes. Does not leave much for actual clothes or purchases if the max allowed is 20 or 21kg.

Anyhow, here are the details and a couple of photos:

Brand name - Sub-0-Go
Style - Softsided
Three sizes available - 49cm carry on, 62cm mid-size and 72cm large size.
Colour - black only
Guarantee - two years (so of course less that a Samsonite etc.)
Inside - Lined but without any separations which I prefer.
Carry on - 49cm, 30L capacity, 1.94kg for CHF 80
Mid-size - 62cm, 57L capacity, 2.43kg, for CHF 99 (the mid-size fits inside the large size).
Large size - 72cm, 84L capacity, 2.66kg, for CHF 129

Anyone who wants to do some more research, the website is http://landor-hawa.co.uk/04_02_02_bt..._02_01_00.html

Who knows if they're any good but they do have a 2 year guarantee at least. Made in China.

Last case I bought in china cost £3 from their fake Wallmart shop. It fell apart on the conveyor when I arrived back in London. Luckily, nothing actually fell out of the bag, and the baggage handling company just gave me a new bag. The new one is still going strong three years later and obviously cost more than £3 ;)

For only FIVE times the price, there is some beautiful Samsonite luggage with a 10 year guarantee that I can recommend. Available at Coop City.

Most people are just looking for something that works, holds together for a certain time and allows them to carry the amount of stuff they want on a trip.

In the Coop Zeitung they advertised a special on Samsonite bags until 13.3.10. There were 4 sizes of bags advertised.
Travel bag - 49 chf
55 cm trolley - 139 (reg 229)
61 cm trolley - 159 (reg 249)
72 cm trolley - 179 (reg 269)

Available in red or black. Anyone see these?

I think when buying luggage one should be a trusted name.

Here's a good shop if you are in the Zürich area, it's just next to the Glattzentrum shopping center. I have bought both Samsonite and Pack Easy there for a good price. They also have a repair service
