How to get to Geneva early in the morning from Yverdon!

Hello all.

(Hope I've posted this the right place.)

My girlfriend and I are flying from Geneva to Copenhagen Friday 19/3. The by far cheapest option is Easyjet, but the flight is at 6:15 AM. We live in Yverdon, and can't make it in time because of the train(we don't hae a car) .
Any ideas where to spend a night in Geneva (Thursday-Friday)?
If you have knowledge of another cheap flight Thursday night, that would be possible too...

Any tips how the cheapest way is to be able to take the plane in Geneva early in the morning, when we live in Yverdon???

Hope somebody can help - it's a bit urgent!

www.couchsurfing.com

Or a cheap hotel although i dont know one. Dont forget though that you have to be at the airport by 4:30 and buses dont run that early. Or for the cheapest option stay overnight at the airport. I have seen loads of people doing it

Good luck

That's partly the reason flights at such time are the cheapest since for many the cost of transport to the airport (taxi) or a hotel nearby costs far more than one would save. I had a quick look at EasyJet's website but it doesn't appear that they have any other flights on that day.

I was going to offer our couch to surf on, but we are dealing with a stomach bug right at this nasty moment and eventhough we live a few kms from GE, ti would still not be any easier to get into the town and airport soon enough for the flight.

I second gata's advice, buy a bottle of wine, have a PJ party at the airport. Get there around 11pm-midnight, stay up a bit, sit on your luggage and guard eachother's stuff. It is easy if there are 2 of you, you might take turn napping. Sleep on the plane.

Yeah, you'd wanna be at the airport between 4:30 and 5am...

From where I live, I can usually take one of the first trains in the morning and make it to the airport for an early flight. Yverdon however's another ball game. If you end up doing an all nighter at an airport (never tried the Geneva airport... they may not even let you in?), you'll be truly and well exhausted by the time you get off your flight destination... The day will be spent sleeping or in a drowsy haze (which isn't that nice).

Try the Holiday inn or Crowne Plaza near the airport. They're walking distance from the airport entrance which would save you some $$$ on taxis, and you can get to them from the airport train station. Prices may not be too bad for a singe night.

Thank you all for the quick replies!

We will think about crashing in the airport, but great idea about the couchsurfing website. I didn't know it. I will have a look, and maybe something will come up!

We will only be away for the weekend, so we don't carry anything other than handluggage. And if we check in the day before, we don't have to be at the airport 2 hours before the flight.

Thanks a lot!

Actually it's not allowed.

For security reasons, the terminal T1 is closed from 00:00 am to 04:00 am. The French sector is closed from 11:00 pm to 04:30 am. It is not allowed to stay inside during this time.

Re: How to get to Geneva early in the morning from Yverdon!

I get a rate of 137 USD for a night in the NH Hotel Geneva Airport from 18/3 to 19/3. They have mini-bus transfers to the airport every x minutes during the day.

Try www.otel.com to get this rate.

Hope this helps.

Re: How to get to Geneva early in the morning from Yverdon!

Thank you for the information regarding it's not allowed to spend the night in the Airport!

And Stout - that's the cheapest hotel so far - thanks!

I've just tried calculating what it will cost us, if we rent a car here in Yverdon and leave it at the airport for the weekend.
All in all it will be approx 120CHF, and because we don't have to buy traintickets, it will only be 55CHF more, than taking the train and finding a couch to crash on. Then we can drive early in the morning and be there in time.
But I will definately just check couchsurfing again - fun way to meet new people

Thank you for all your help!

The last time I had to catch an early flight in Geneva, I tried couchsurfing and ended up staying in this youth hostel for a few hours:

It's cheap and it's within walking distance from the train station.

All the best!

Re: How to get to Geneva early in the morning from Yverdon!

We had a friend staying with us in Lausanne 2 years ago who had the same problem when he left. He researched sleeping in the airport, and found several reports of people who had done so and advice on where the best spots were. I don't remember if it was officially banned but he certainly didn't have any problems sleeping there - maybe they've changed the rules since, or maybe in practice it is tolerated if you are there to catch a flight.
