Re: Safari in Africa

I will try to steer this thread back to its original intent.

I recently (End of Feb, 2010) went to Kenya and did a three day safari (as well as 5 days on Mombasa beach resort). We went through Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park. One piece of advice that I can give is this: If you want to see a high quantity and diverse wildlife, do not include Tsavo West in any package you choose.

If I had done my research before I went (which would have been smart, but I left most things up to the Travel Agency) I would have known that Masai Mara in Kenya or Serengeti in Tanzania both have greater volume and variety of animals than Tsavo East or West. Parks in South Africa can also boast this. Just my two cents.

I used Kuoni travel agency and she was very nice and helpful, but in retrospect I wish she would have asked me what I wanted, as at that time, I was under the assumption that since it was Africa, it didn't really matter where you went, you would be beseiged by animal life. I was wrong.

Re: Safari in Africa

I am off to Uganda to see the mountain gorillas and the chimps this year, followed by 3 days at an ecolodge in the Mara.

Apparently Ugandan people are some of the nicest in Africa, although I cant say I have found many nasty ones, and I have travelled, lived, or safaried over most of the continent.

Oh, perhaps Nigerians arent all nice...

Is that really so or the myth? Anyway, we sheer mortals are destinied to only one kind of the fruit in form of:
It is really so. My wife has seen them. BTW, the Amarula liquor tastes very nice. Quite a bit like Irish Cream Wiskey.

Also important is the time of the year. For example, Chobe in Botswana : If it is dry season, then all the animals congregate near the river. Absolutely fantastic. If it is wet season, then all the animals are somewhere inland, and you have to cover acres and acres of space before you see something.... I don't know about Tsavo, but sometimes you don't see anything because it is simply not in season.

Re: Safari in Africa

Hi,

I have a friend who used the below company to go to Namibia, said they had a great time, everything was organised for them and also included cheap(er) flights. Might be worth looking into.

www.abendsonneafrika.de

Normally I would recommend going to Zimbabwe... but alas, all is not what it once was there Wherever you go though, I'm sure you'll have an awesome time!
