Dear All,

I want to drive to some scenic locations near Zurich this weekend (just for a day trip).
The places which otherwise can not be traveled using Public transport.
Lakes or Mountain tops or any scenic locations..of course car accessible.. are my preference..planning for a quiet day with my wife..BBQ and planning for our upcoming baby..
Will appreciate more information on parking in the said location.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I always find the klontalersee very beautiful. Take the A3 to Chur exit 44, watch out for the small sign (before Glarus). Watch out, the lake can only be accessed from this direction as the pragelpass is closed for trafic during the weekends.
About the lake itself, it has very clear bright blue water. It is a very quiet lake (but I since you have baby plans, I don't know whether its quiet enough for that)

Quinten is really pretty and is on the walensee (45 min from Zurich). It is super busy on weekends so you might want to save this for a weekday trip. It is a town with very few people living there (less that 100 but I forget the exact number). Anyway, you reach Quinten by boat. There is a nice restaurant with beautiful view, wine tasting and you can BBQ as well. Check it out on the internet. We drove to Murg and parked and caught boat from there but you can also depart from Weesen for a longer boat trip.

for even more quiet you can go to the obersee (just north of klontalersee)

Weesen on the Walensee - or upto Amden/Arvenbuhl for a bit of a hike - it is the sunny side of the lake - and you have great views across the valley.

Wow! those are some great pictures!! isn't any chance to get to the place of the first photography by public transport?

Take the train to Glarus, then the bus to "Klöntal, Rhodannenberg" . From there it's supposed to be a 30min walk to "Schwammhöhe".

I read the thread title and initially thought "dogging" oh well boredom does these things to me...

This is one of my secret favourite spots! The drive up is amazing, and there are great walks all around and fantastic views just off the road- it's fantastically gorgeous. We found it by accident saw a sign to "Obersee" veon our way to Klausenpass from Zurich, I thought it was a fantastically ambiguous and generic name and had to check it out.

So.....did you manage to do your "baby planning activities" at the lake without interference from the locals? ;-)

Doing such activities in public can cause problems if you are not careful.

If I had a car, this is probably the first hike I'd do.
