Connecting a Wireless router to Bluewin

I'm running into a problem trying to connect a generic ADSL Wireless router to my Swisscom Bluewin connection.

Having receently arrive in Switzerland, I brought with me a Belkin labeled Wireless router 802.11g that I had been sucessfully using in the UK with Orange.

However when I try to set it up to work here on Bluewin it fails. There is a setup menu that lists ISP's to automatically set things up. However the Bluewin setup fails. I'm currently running my Internet service off of the provided Netopia USB modem. Which although provides decent enough service sucks logistically. Since the only phone sock in the appartment is in my sons room and I'm at the moment having to trawl cables about the place. Not good with a 2 year old running about.

If anyone knows what all the VPC mux settings should be etc please let me know.

Thanks in Advance.

Re: Connecting a Wireless router to Bluewin

Having read through this and sub forums on this topic, I couldn't find a kind soul who said something along the lines of "If you have the Netopia USB ADSL modem and would like to install a wireless solution, you need to go and buy <
whatever the piece of kit is> and this is how you install it.....". I know life isn't supposed to be easy, especially for us expats, but is there anyone who might have a suggestion? If it is already on the forum and I have failed to find it, my sincere apologies to all.

Kind regards,

TheCaptain

There might be a more appropriate forum for this.

Re: Connecting a Wireless router to Bluewin

What you need is an ADSL wireless modem router. I've used Belkin for years and never had a problem. This is what I currently have and it has been perfect - really good reception even in a large house and excellent speeds.

You will also need something to communicate with the router and that is in the form or either a wireless network card or just a wireless USB stick e.g.

There are different speed B, G and now N. Personally I went for G Mimo (multiple in multiple out) - which just means you get better reception.

Thanks WelshBoyo - you are a true champion. Off to the shops tomorrow to do some shopping.

(Fellow) Gooner, apologies for posting in the wrong forum. Where should I have posted this for future reference please?
