Love those new Tegra-2 Chips, especially if they look like this...

not too shabby - and if the 400$ price-tag turns out to be true, this might just be the tablet + notebook solution so many people have been waiting for.

Dear moderator: could you please move this thread to the TV / internet / phone thread, where the other tablet threads (e.g. the one for the iPad) reside?

The only Android tablet that I'm currently considering is the new and improved Galaxy Tab 10.1 which should be available around June. If it really is as thin as the iPad 2 with equivelent battery life, then I'll get it. I'm not actually that unhappy with my iPad, just a little bored with the same old interface.

I was sooo close to buying the Galaxy Tab just before Christmas last year but it wasn't available before a planned long holiday...I was happy to hear that the new tab is bigger as the small size was something which was a slight negative for me.....However...Why the hell have Samsung decided to remove the memory card slot so it is not expandable (a clear advantage over the iPad) and also it is not possile to link it to an HDMI....
If those features were still available I would be straight out to buy one...when / if it ever comes this way...So now I will be considering other options...

The tablet alone also looks very nice.

All of a sudden I'm in the market for a table too (my dad wants to give me one for my birthday next month, I can basically get what I want).
Because of the need for an external PC (running iTunes) to be able to properly use an Ipad2 I'm more leaning towards an android tab though Ipad2 is not out the window yet.
I looked at Samsung (the new 8.9"), I like it but am kind of afraid of the Samsung proprietary 'wrapper' placed around the android honeycomb. W.r.t. compatibility to apps and updatebility I think it's better to get a tab which runs the stock android honeycomb. The Xoom has already been mentioned here but feature and size wise I really like the looks of the new 8.9" LG G-slate. This tablet also runs stock Android honeycomb, seems to have a good processor for games and can film 2D in 1080p and 3D in 720p. Disadvantage: screen is 1280x768 while 1280x800 seems to be the norm, maybe this give problems with certain apps in the future ?
On the other hand I have the feeling it's maybe better to get the most ubiquitous android tablet, I would guess this is going to be the samsung galaxy version... and what about the asus eee tab with the keyboard docking station (which turns it into a laptop) ?
What do you guys think of this LG tablet ? I'm not really well read in this stuff, I expressed an interest in my dad's Ipad and am now stuck with having to pick a tablet for myself (I know, my life sucks ). I would really appreciate some help from the more gadget savy....

With regards to the other tablet you mentioned, it is hard to say anything since they are not out yet - they are all quite similar in specs.
The Xoom being the only one that is out, is getting good reviews tho. |

this will probably also help to determine the form factor, which is probably the critical choice to make.

Peter | | | | | The question for me is whether it will feel like a premium product, or just another generic ebay tablet. I'm also not sure that it is thinner than the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (8.6mm and 595g), since the published specs of the Asus transformer are 13mm depth and a hefty 680 g.
In addition I'm not swayed by the keyboard since the combined product will still be inferior to the most basic netbook. For me a standalone tablet fills the niche between my desktop and Notebook PCs.

I doubt the Asus will be built as well as the iPad or the Xoom - but then again, it also costs a heck of a lot less and already comes with a keyboard (an accessory many people buy for lots of money once they get their iPads).
I agree, however - if you won't be using the keyboard, it's pointless to buy the Asus (especially if you can afford the more expensive keyboard-less packages from other manufacturers).

They all run standard Honeycomb, will all be easily upgradeable and they mostly have the same specs. In that respect, go for:
- the most popular one (as that one will have the most accessories and the biggest user-base)
- the lightest one
- the cheapest one (unless it's built so badly that it falls apart from merely looking at it)
In the end, it will probably all boil down to availability: as it looks like right now, we won't be having much of a choice here. It's either going to be the Xoom or the Tab 10.1V as all the other contenders don't seem to become available in Switzerland any time soon.
