HD ready LCD TV recommendation

Can any of you techno-freaks give me a recommendation for the above. I'm re-arranging my home office right now & want to have a flat screen that can double up as a computer monitor, so nothing bigger than 32 inch.
Also HD compatible, as do not want to fall behind on this .. (office is also my get away from rest of the family room)
Any recommends (Lob) ?

Re: HD ready LCD TV recommendation

If you really want 32" then the SONY KDL-32S2530 is the best value for money and if you want quality picture then last time I looked you needed to go to 37" where the choice is wider and the quality better and the price no different...

Re: HD ready LCD TV recommendation

basically you're looking at two markets: those that do 1080p and those that don't. 1080i/720p models will be about 65% of the price of a similar full-HD panel.

Personally I'd look to spend as little as possible now and repeat the purchase in about 4 years.

Actually no, Lob and I discuss and then I agree that he was right even if he has changed his mind. Otherwise he would not be omniscient

ITs HD ready cos it does 1080i ie it interlaces 1080 lines. 1080p actually does 1080 lines so its full HD but that starts at 37" ( sorry 32")

1080i is interlaced so it does not actually show at that resolution. 1080 p is progressively scanned and does show that many lines. Effectively the 1080p redraws all 1080 every frame. The 1080i only every other. The result is a better picture with the 1080p. However you only notice it with action ie plenty of movement when there are big changes between the frames then you get a blur or a tail on the quickly moving object...

Am I still going to get a groan or can I have some sweets now?

Re: HD ready LCD TV recommendation

HD Ready can do HD, just not full HD. 720p (progressive scan).

Wikipedia reference-linkHDTV

If you want to use the screen with a PC, think about the following:
  • does your graphics card support the native resolution or do you need something like PowerStrip?
  • does it have VGA connectors or will you use DVI (and does it have those?)
  • what are you going to connect to it in order to watch programmes?

Re: HD ready LCD TV recommendation

Contrary to my previous post, I am slightly interested.

Interlaced or progressive. Progressive good, interlaced not so, but uses less bandwidth eg PAL TV.

If you are going 32" go for a Sony KDL blah blah (various models different speed and contrast levels , all pretty good). If you go 37"+ I would (and am to) go for 1080p. My fave is the Sony KDL-40W2000...
