upc cablecom just launched free calls to USA, UK, Australia, ....

Hey,

Have a look at the website of upc cablecom (www.upc-cablecom.ch).

They just launched a new phone product (FreePhone Global), that gives you free calls to landlines in 33 countries, among which USA, UK, Ierland, Australia, New Zealand and most European countries.

It also comes as part of their new combination deal, the Power Combi, with 100Mbps internet, the full Digital TV package, Freephone Global and a free wifi modem for 99 CHF per month.

Not bad at all!

And for those who don't need unlimited international calls: the Smart Combo really isn't bad, either - 79 Fr. for 120 TV channels, 50 mbit/s internet and unlimited calls to Swiss landlines is dirt cheap. Swisscom still charges 69 Fr. for a 20 mbit/s line + 25.25 Fr. per month for the line-lease - and that doesn't include TV yet.

I just switched my FP 100 to the new smart combo - I never managed to find websites that could actually be loaded at 100 mbit/s, so I'm now saving 45 Fr. per month compared to the combo-deal I had before. And should I ever need 100 mbit/s, they just need to flip a switch on my command to move to the power combo.

Hey, if Cablecom is watching English Forum, is this where we can complain about the recorder/receiver always being a few minutes off in comparison with the official screening times?

They probably just want to match Swisscom TV in that respect, as well

Just order it, will have power in two days.

100 mb, all HD channels, +free calls in Europe. wife is so gonna love endless calls home, will probably get away with the completely over-the-top broadband connection.

anybody got any actual performance experience on cablecom?

The 100 mbit/s connection is pretty darn hot :-) However, most websites won't output that kind of speed, so it's kinda futile. But it's still good to have

If you use the internet, watch the telly and make telephone calls through the same network, what do you do when the network is down?

Use the Swisscom 3G USB dongle? :-)

TV is almost never down, though, even when the network and the phone don't work. We haven't experienced a TV-outage, so far, but network outages happen once in a while. The phone service is VoIP, so when the network's down, the phone's down as well.

As a matter of fact, the network and the phone both were down all weekend for us here...

Go crrraaaaaazyyyy

But seriously, there are only really two ways to get on the internet/phone etc cable and phone line. If one goes down, I'm sure it'll get fixed pronto. Like the water pipes. Anyway, I'm with Swisscom. Worst, most expensive deal around, but I'm a sucker for a blue chip brand.
