Some Swisscom partners have apparently already received some units.

You can get them on a Swisscom contract from there, as well. And you'll get the unbranded version. The Swisscom version is branded (Swisscom logo on startup and shutdown) -> slow update policy.

| | | Re: Samsung Galaxy S II i9100... new Android beast of a phone about to be released.
My Samsung Galaxy II has been posted and should be with me tommorrow! I am worryingly excited, and my colleagues think there is something odd about getting to hyped up over a phone... though dancing around the room whooping when I saw "Status: In Transit" probably didn't help with that.
Reasons for being so happy are:
My Motorola Milestone broke so for the last month and a bit I have been using a Nokia C6-00, officially the worst phone ive used in recent memory. I am quite literally almost desperate for the phone, genuine reasons being: - Google syncs with my Outlook calendar and work wont give me a company BB thus, I use it to stay organised.
- Not having an Android phone impacts my sleep. I use Lightning Bug and Gentle Alarm to go to sleep and wake up in the morning, and i've REALLY missed not having them for the last month.
- I can't browse on the go, game, or use any of the media-rich apps I used to use daily. This is a fricken nightmare on trains when I travel for business.
etc etc
In short, it's amazing how much I have actually come to rely on my Android phone in my daily life, and without it I feel a tad lost. Sad, but true. |

Richdog, I hope this ends better than the Milestone If I remember genuine excitement turned ultimately into frustration and disapointment.
I'm also considering the Galaxy II as a first real foray into Android (I do have a San Francisco). What wins it for me is the form factor, build quality, larger screen and the fact that after 4 gens of iPhone my eye is starting to wander.

| | | Re: Samsung Galaxy S II i9100... new Android beast of a phone about to be released. A guide to Rooting your Galaxy SII (obviously not tested by me, so proceed at risk ) What you need: - A Samsung Galaxy S2
- A Windows PC
- A USB DATACABLE
- Odin Downloader (Download Here)
- Download the attached XWKDD, but do NOT extract the .tar file (Download Here)
- Download and extract SuperOneClick (Download Here)
- Put device in USB debugging mode: Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging
Step One
Reboot your device into download mode Turn the device off, then power it on again by pressing and holding VolumeDown + Home + Power simultaneously. Step Two
Start ODIN Downloader Step Three
Connect the device to your computer using USB.
Wait a few seconds, the ODIN screen should show you that a device is now connected.
tick the checkboxes next to “Auto reboot” and “F. Reset Time” and leave everything else as is.
Press the “PDA” button, and select the “XWKDD_insecure.tar” file.
Press “Start”. ODIN you should now be flashing the kernel, and the device should reboot.
DO Not Remove the cable and Wait until the device is rebooted. Step Four
Once the device is rooted and while still connected via USB
Start SuperOneClick, and press ROOT
Reboot the device
That’s all folks! You should have successfully rooted your Samsung Galaxy S2. http://samsunggalaxys2review.org/roo...y-s2-heres-how | | The following 2 users would like to thank Castro for this useful post: | |

Thanks Castro. From I've heard, with the latest firmware updates (which removed some battery draining bugs), the phone runs extremely fast and has good battery life with the basic firmware anyway, but I think I'll root it to remove some of Samsung's bloatware.
A friend of mine has the Desire HD and he pretty much had to install Cyanogen if he wanted it to have over 12 hours of battery life. Thankfully there won't be need for that.

Mainly because its absolute fluidity in usage. Everything on the SGS II is instantaneous. No lags, no waiting, no nothing.
That coupled with a brilliant screen, an absolutely perfect browsing experience, feather-light weight, fast charging times, an excellent camera, a loud speaker, very good reception and the general absence of bugs makes this phone the one I've been looking for ever since I started using smart-phones.
So richdog: don't worry: I have yet to meet the person who didn't like his SGS II.
The only thing I didn't like about it was the Samsung keyboard - which I simply replaced with the stock Gingerbread keyboard from the market

This on the other hand is sob leeding edge that it should still feel fresh in a year, and will certainly make an awesome backup phone when I upgrade i n12 months time. | Quote: | | | | | The SGS II is honest to god the best phone I've ever used. What has turned me a little off buying the SGS 2 is that it doesn't have NFC. If I bought it, I'd plan to keep it for many years.
Maybe I should just buy it. |

Maybe I should just buy it. | | | | | There will be an NFC-version of the SGS II. It's slightly more expensive (about 50 Fr.), slightly thicker and slightly heavier. Digitec had it listed for a while but apparently it won't be released in Switzerland for now, so they removed it again.
I personally don't think NFC will hit Switzerland any time soon. Google is going to begin testing payment solutions in the second half of this year. But that's US-only. I'd say we'll be seeing first real-life applications of this in 2012. From what I've heard, this is going to work a lot like the CASH chip they put on every EC card until a couple of years ago or so; that was a total flop, because you have to put some money on it before you can use it.
As long as it's not a full replacement for an EC- or a credit-card, I don't think it'll succeed.
Of course, except for the Nexus S, there is no other phone on the market right now that actually has an NFC chip, AFAIK.
