How do I tell if I have the proper cable for Cablecom?

I'm thinking of getting TV service by Cablecom (I live in Nyon) because they carry some US sports channels (NFL). I currently have satellite with the free channels and antenna with some local channels. Does Cablecom need another special cable (like in the US) for their service? If so how do I tell if I have it? If not what can I do?

Also, could I get the US NASN sport channel via some satellite somehow?

Thanks!

Log into cablecom's website and check availability by introducing your zip code.

Re: How do I tell if I have the proper cable for Cablecom?

What you need to do is to go to http://www.cablecom.ch/ and plug in your address. This will tell you whether you can get digital cable. Most of Nyon seems to have it (I plugged a few addresses in) so if you have the normal cable outlet you should be OK. If you just have an external antenna and no cable outlet you will need to get Cablecom installed. Call one of these numbers, http://www.cablecom.ch/index/contact_de.htm but sometimes they are not very helpful.

One thing to do is look on your wall for a plate with either 2 or 3 connectors, 2 normal COAX, the other a smaller COAX with a thread. If you have this you have the cable installed, otherwise you need to talk to an electrician.

NASN is broadcast encrypted on Hotbird 7A, see http://de.kingofsat.net/pos-13E.php for details. It is only carried officially on cable in Die Schweiz ie no Bluwin TV:

Re: How do I tell if I have the proper cable for Cablecom?

I've already checked the availability and I can get digital TV (but not internet ). Regarding the cables, the ones that the satellite and antenna connects with are slip-on type, no threads. I have two unused ones with what looks like a US-style screw-on connector but a bit smaller I think. Would these be the cables I need? These I can't connect to the TV as the TV has the slip-on type socket. I can take a picture maybe and post it here.

I have a Hotbird on my list of satellites when I pull up the menu. If NASN is indeed on it how could I subscribe to it? The link posted above doesn't seem to work...

Thanks!

This sounds like the Cablecom connector, it sounds like you have the cable connection already. Is it similar to this http://www.dastv.co.uk/images/pht/th...64_DAS0508.jpg ?

Yeah, the wall plate looks similar to that and the connector at the end of the cable looks like this. Finally talked to landlord and he said it was for connecting to a Sky receiver box. I guess that's a good enough reason to switch to Sky.
