Will Amazon´s Kindle Fire burn the iPad ?

The Android tablet from amazon is to be launched in 2-3 days, shipping in November with an anticipated price tag of USD250 / 300 a pop.

Seriously doubt it'll make a dent in Apple's market share. The tablet runs a very old version of Android - and essentially is nothing but a glorified ereader.

Re: Will Amazon´s Kindle Fire burn the iPad ?

i think amazon is the most likely to succeed out of all the android contenders. amazon should try to give this away as cheaply as possible, it could be the biggest storefront for them.

http://www.amazon.com/

The new product has been officially announced, but will it ever be officially sold outside of the US, seeing as it's tightly bundled with Amazon's US only services (cloud, prime, etc.)?

It's US only - and won't be available outside the US in the foreseeable future as it relies heavily on US-only services (movies, Prime etc.)

I personally don't think the two can even be compared. The iPad is a general-purpose tablet that does many things right but also sucks at some (web browsing without flash, outdoor-readability etc.) whereas the Fire is a glorified book-reader with some media-capability.

Re: Will Amazon´s Kindle Fire burn the iPad ?

The Kindle Fire's $199 (£130) price tag undercuts the Nook Color by $50 (£30) and is significantly cheaper than more powerful tablets from Apple, Samsung, Motorola and others.

It is due to go on sale on 15 November in the US, although global release dates are currently unavailable.

Re: Will Amazon´s Kindle Fire burn the iPad ?

I want one; it does everything I want in a tablet. I have an iPad but never use it for games etc but the kids & husband do so they can inherit that & I could have the Fire all to myself.

Re: Will Amazon´s Kindle Fire burn the iPad ?

I was debating getting one, but I think I'll pass until the next gen, which I assume will come with 3G.

The Amazon Silk seems like a great browser, but again, if I have Wifi, there's little advantage to be gained by it. I'm putting my money on them coming out with a 3G version next year. I have the Kindle 2 right now, and the 3G is a godsend.

$199. good target price. $150 would have been nicer, but they'll still sell like hotcakes.

Re: Will Amazon´s Kindle Fire burn the iPad ?

I would be mildly interested, but better to wait for the 2nd gen in my opinion. This is just a foot in the door, let's get something out for Christmas model. My bet is the next gen will be far more refined.

As for impacting iPad market share, I wouldn't have thought so, at least not in any significant way. They're barely comparable, plus the iPad is global already.

Re: Will Amazon´s Kindle Fire burn the iPad ?

I toyed with pre-ordering yesterday but
a) I don't know truly how limited the overlays will make this Android experience
b) I'd probably be tied to the US store (sometimes not a bad thing)
c) I still have 2 Touchpads in their boxes downstairs (!!)

Re: Will Amazon´s Kindle Fire burn the iPad ?

The Kindle touch will have no physical turn page buttons = FAIL
There is a certain tactile pleasure to pushing a button to turn a page, which no amount of tapping or swiping will replace.
Why fix it if it ain't broke?
