Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in Nov '11

I would just be happy if I had the function of recording an additional so many minutes before and after a programme (without it actually running at the time) back instead of having to download stuff from the internet so that you can find out how something actually ended. My old OOOLD box did this. And you could have various favourites lists that saved you scrolling through all sorts of tripe which your flatmates like to watch. The guide loaded more quickly. It was silver, not black. I loved it to bits but as I left the apartment I flatshared in, I couldn't take it with me...

AFAIK you can do this with all the cablecom boxes.

Hmm, it shows up when you are recording something that is running at the time but I've yet to find it for things timed to record. Especially annoying for series recordings.

We got ours just over a year ago from cablecom and we can do this. I routinely add 5 mins to the start and end of everything I record.

I recently subscribed to Cablecom. The recorder has a menu option for adding a default time span before and after the scheduled time slot when recording. It can also be adjusted manually. It also has a favourites menu plus movies, HD and kids. The thing that shits me is the sound is cut for several seconds when the "guide" is activated.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in Nov '11

I just bought this Samsung Blue-Ray player that has an integrated HD Cable tuner. I already has a Cablecom Digicard (100 CHF one-time fee) in my TV, but didn't have the ability to record. I think this Samsung box is awesome for the price.

http://www.toppreise.ch/prod_227671.html

Pluses:
+ Don't have to rent a box from Cablecom
+ Razor thin
+ HD Cable tuner
+ PVR can record to external USB drive
+ BlueRay and DVD player
+ HD and 3D "upscaling"
+ LAN/WiFi media player (ie: can connect to your PC via LAN or WiFi and play downloaded media from there)
+ Automatic software upgrades via LAN connection

Minuses:
-Can't unlock DVD player for "region-free"
-Only one USB connector, and it's on the FRONT of the box
-PVR menu is not too user-friendly
-Recorded media from TV is DRM-encrypted, so you can't transfer it to any other devices like your PC
-Ony one cable tuner (DVB-C) so you can't record and watch a different channel at the same time.

All-in-all, it's a great box for a great price. If you just want a HD DVB-C tuner, prices start at 180 CHF or so. But with this, you get a DVD/Blue-Ray player included, with some 3D and HD upscaling. I don't have any BlueRay discs (and don't plan to buy any) but still have alot of DVD's, so at least I can use it for that. I also have a SAT-TV tuner, I would have liked to have a combo SAT/Cable tuner in one box, but there's not many options for that. Guess you can't have it all. But I'm pretty happy with this.

Any news on this new box then?

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you guys on this, been a bit busy getting married and all!!!

Ok, just spoke with the numpty's from CableCom and they told me that the new box is not being launched until 2012 (as above posts note). When I asked when, they could not give me a defined date but was told it's likely to be mid-late 2012.

So on that bombshell, goodbye CableCom and hello Sky+HD!

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

^^ This is the existing box. The new and coming box will have much superior functionality, and I believe that one will be able to record remotely from an ipad or iphone.... a feature that has existed for a long time now on Sky.

Cant wait but hope that it isnt much delayed.

Re: UPC Cablecom - NEW HD Box Launching in 2012

Still no news on their updated services..... i heard something on another forum that its still planned for second half 2012 but well, I shall believe it when i see it.

I gathered that the service would go live by now in Netherlands UPC first but my digging around does seem to suggest it is far from it.
