There is not much choice, really good does not exist here, if you were living in the UK or the US that would be another matter,

well I'm in Zurich city centre so I guess connection will be ok.
I would use it to check emails and to surf (maybe skype). So 300 MB would be enough.
Let's say 50 chf per month.

possible ?

Re: Ipad sim card - pre paid

Sunrise has a prepaid option 7.5 CHF/ month for 250MB. I don't if they offer a microSIM.

just be advised that Sunrise doesn't allow their prepaid SIMs (or any other SIMs except those sold specifically for that purpose) to be used in anything other than a cellphone. Using them in an iPad is against their legal terms. They don't seem to go after people who ignore those ridiculous terms, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Re: Ipad sim card - pre paid

I use the Swisscom deal. Best connection and it takes just seconds to "top-up". Currently on CHF 39.-/ month for 2gb, as I work with it a lot outside the office.

Isn't Ipad a cellphone?

Theoretically you're not allowed to use a voip connection, but I've been using voip for about two years and nobody seems to care. I guess they can't technically see it and block it. And if they would see it, what could they do, cancel the prepaid contract?

The Swiss mobile service (sunrise, swisscom ,etc.) is not quite quality-oriented, they are laggards in terms of offer and price, too. But this is what I expect. It goes like this in Switzerland. They'll probably catch up within the next years.

Re: Ipad sim card - pre paid

My parents are on their way for a 2 week visit in Switzerland and my Dad just texted to ask which prepaid sim he should buy for his 3G iPad while he is here.

This thread was a helpful starting place -- thanks! -- and I've just been looking at the Swisscom, Orange and Sunrise websites. Thought I would share what I found out in case it is useful for someone else.

Sunrise advertises a data deal ("T@KE AWAY Prepaid Dayflat) for iPads on their site. It looks like they are probably the best option for my folks: 19 CHF for the sim then 19 CHF a month for 1 GB of data (or 15 CHF for 500 MB) with Sunrise Surf. You can also get "unlimited" data for 5 CHF a day.

Orange and Swisscom also both do a 5 CHF per day deal, and Swisscom does some prices for a certain amount of data per month but these looked higher than Sunrise for lower data amounts. Maybe Swisscom has better network coverage, I don't know.
