My wife tried to update her iphone to the new software release 10.5 today but it did not work.
I tracked it down to a firewall problem; happy moment. Fixed that, the iphone checked with the apple store that it is a legal iphone & started software download; went into firmware update & then threw up error 3200. 
error 3200 does not exist in the apple web site!
Googled & found error 3200 means overloaded apple servers; advice is to wait & try again. Been trying for 2 hours; now my wife has an iphone that is totally blocked.

It gives this error because apples servers are overloaded with people trying to update. Once the process gets to "verifying with apple" it gives the error. I tried 6 times last night as well. Try now, the hype should have calmed down.

Had the same problem last night...the update bricked my iPhone..happy days. Same error but all went smooth this morning.
btw .. slight correction to your heading, it's
iOS 5 and
iTunes 10.5

Updated mine this morning, the install seemed to go ok, but restoring the apps and music was taking ages, had to leave it behind this morning.
I you're updating a full phone, make sure you have an hour spare.

Not some thing to be rushed, so my iPhone update will have to wait until the weekend when I have more time to "wait"
(the issue I did have, was it didn't like my mix of appleid accounts (one CH, one UK, one US) that I had used to download apps, and only restored the CH ones automatically - I had to get the UK ones again via the app store)

did 2 x iPod Touch's this morning. No problems. But it took 1hr 10min per iPod Touch by the time it restored all apps, music and movies...

Husband did his iPhone last night, but forgot his pin, was able to restore everything this morning once I got his PUK from the orange website , although it did take forever to restore. As a positive, he now has a pin he can remember! iPad was pretty easy and relatively quick.
I'm waiting on mine - I just got a new laptop and I don't want everything to go to crap in the same day!
Edited to add: He just called to tell me that one advantage to the upgrade is that the phone appears to have better reception.

Hey all,
I did the update on iphone 4 and ipad 1, all good.
However, I never got an email to allow me to verify my icloud account. Anyone else had this issue?

Phew... nearly 2 hours and the upgrade is done. Good news is that stuff that had ceased to work, is fixed.
The previous upgrade made ActiveSync go crazy, use all my data and battery life but not actually sync anything! Looks like it's back in action again, so I may just reconsider and not place the order for the 4GS....
OK, I won't be hasty... I'll make sure it still works OK tomorrow first.
