Where to buy HDD etc?

Is it just me or is it more or less impossible to buy internal HDD's at the well known high-street shops? I have checked ID, Fust, FNAC etc but no luck...

Anyone who can point me to a shop/chain that would carry a good stock of different HDD's some where central (don't have a car) i either Bern or Fribourg?

I'm done with online shopping so no need to try and convince me to buy it online

Unfortunately, Fribourg is a bit of a dump when it comes to shops like that...

Try STEG in Granges-Paccot near Fribourg. They've got HDDs coming out of their ears.

Wrong .... there's a Steg out at the new retail park at St. Leonards/Granges Paccot on Rue de Morat/Murtenstrasse just past the University football ground and almost opposite the Patinoire (ice rink - Fribourg Gotteron).

Don't know the number, but the bus with Porte de Fribourg on the front will get you out there. And just a bit beyond on the other side is an InterDiscount.

MediaMarkt in Centre d'Agy, opposite Steg, also have loads of HDDs, Mobos, GPUs, RAM, CPUs....

I have seen internal hard drives for sale in Interdiscount. The choice wasn't too bad.

So, I went to STEG in Fribourg and OMG what a dump! First thing that came to mind was a former DDR supermarket with a service level matching the surroundings.

There were three or four teenagers behind the 2 meter high desk seperating them from us (i.e. the customers) and couldn't give a toss weather there were people who needed help or not. I stood there for 5 min or so and decided to leave! The goods on display were horrible and not a single internal HDD in sight.

Walked back to Interdiscount, and was greeted by every single employee in the shop, found the HDD I needed, which was pretty lucky as they only had 1 type (and two left) of the model I needed (2Tb at CHF 75 I think). I was in and out in less than 2 min.

Did also go up to MediaMarkt(?) BUT as big as it might be the internal HDD options were again very poor and didn't have what I was looking for.

Over all experience not very good I'm afraid

well what did you expect? you want that kind of stuff, you should go buy it online. you deliberately went to a sub-optimal shop to buy it from!

i could go to a petrol station to buy dinner, but i wouldn't expect it to be as good as going to a restaurant!

I also always have a problem dealing with the STEG in Freiburg, service is slow. I found that you can "pre-order" on-line with STEG and just walk in there with the printed paper of your order and hand it to them. It makes the whole ordeal slightly less painful.

I've bought alot of HDD's from STEG before, usually they have better prices and a larger selection than Interdiscount. But if you got a 2TB HDD for 75 CHF from Interdiscount, then you caught them on a good day as that sounds like a pretty good price.

PS- The stuff on display in STEG isn't their whole inventory. They have alot of stuff in the back. You need to go to the PC they have on the counter and search for what you want and show it to them, then they go in the back and get it for you.

Yeah I kinda figured that out, BUT getting someones attention is a whole different ball game as they say
