I'm quite disappointed that this was so quietly announced in Korea instead of the big CA event which they planned before Jobs kicked the bucket.

Besides the impressive screen and Android 4.0, meh. I don't regret getting the Galaxy S2. Processor about the same as my S2, graphics chip even worse, less memory (not expansible), worse camera.

Hopefully the S2 gets a 4.0 update eventually, though.

happy to buy it for the screen resolution. 720 means i wont need to rotate the device to view webpages as frequently.

but i also want a 4.0 device to develop on.

I wouldn't bet on it. Me, I'd be happy if I got 2.3.4 for mine :-/
Samsung is probably the worst company ever when it comes to upgrading their existing devices (except for the Nexus line, which gets its updates directly from Google)

Digitec have them for pre-order right now. I'd say the price is a bit steep, though. You'd be paying the early-adopter fee if your ordered now.

It looks as though the phone will be available in Europe by the end of November.

With the Galaxy S2, they've become no worse than any other company. 2.3.5 is already out in some regions, though they're really inconsistent in how they're rolling it out. Why does Poland get it months before us? If you're still stuck with 2.3.3, it may be an operator issue and not a Samsung issue.

The real killer is Kies, so awful (though admittedly it's been working better since I managed to upgrade my phone to 2.3.4).

According to this article, most capable Gingerbread devices will be getting it Ice Cream Sandwich: http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/...ones-20111019/

Since Galaxy S2 is the most powerful and best selling Android phone to-date, I'm guessing we'll get it eventually. Though probably well into 2012.

What about the new (Droid) Moto Razr? The Nexus looks very meh in comparison, the only thing that seems to be going for it is an early review of 4.0 ICS.

cheers. wasn't there when i looked earlier today. i guess 700 chfs isn't too bad considering it is switzerland...

Shhhhhh.....they don't want Apple to find out or else there will be another injunction!!

I've been interested in this release. I'm still on my HTC Hero and just had to replace the battery. Might wait a bit though.

True, but Digitec tends to set the initial pre-order prices about 10-20% above what the items are going to sell for once they becomes available. If you pre-order now, you'll get it first but you'll also pay more. I'm under no pressure to buy a new phone, so I'll just wait until the prices have dropped a bit.

I'm not surprised there's lag, I suspected the processor and graphics chip were slightly underpowered considering all the pixels they have to fill (1280 x 720). Another area where the lower-resolution S2 might have an advantage.

not really - even Gundotra still uses a pre-production version.
Considering that the Galaxy S II runs circles around the iPhone 4 (don't know about the S, haven't been able to test one) in terms of responsiveness, I doubt the final version of the Nexus will be laggy.

As to overall performance, we saw a good deal of stutter in the Galaxy Nexus before us. Taps were not always recognized and there were occasional delays in performing an instruction, though in Google’s defense, it was a phone fully loaded with running tasks and the software is being continually improved and optimized (i.e. it’s not yet fully baked). That having been said, it unfortunately remains the case that Android isn’t as swift and responsive as iOS or Windows Phone (or even MeeGo Harmattan on the N9). I hereby acknowledge that a pre-production model of the Galaxy Nexus running pre-production software allegedly shows "the subtle, pervasive lag that has characterized the Android UI since it (sic) inception".

At the same time, I also "acknowledge" the following:

- because a pre-release device lags doesn't mean the production model will too
- My SGS II never suffered any kind of lag, although "This is my next" clearly states that every Android handset does (which makes me question their objectivity)
- a lot of people should now cancel their pre-orders, so that I receive mine more quickly.
