So I'm planning to buy a new TV this weekend in Basel, 37 - 40" LCD or LED depending on the price. I'm going for full HD 1080 but I'm not sure what minimum refresh rate is good enough.

Before I get shot down yes I've already searched the forum, but my main question applies to this weekend specifically so won't really have been answered before.

- Does anyone know of any bargains currently going in Basel, and if not where is the best place to buy (MediaMarkt/InterDiscount/Migros/Manor....)?
- What spec should I go for that would give me a reasonably good HD quality picture?
- Would I be better off going across the border to France or Germany?

I would do a side by side picture comparison in Media Markt (Basel SBB) or better yet Saturn and let your eyes do the deciding. Both probably have special offers going on, so see what the deal of the day is. Generally electronic goods in Switzerland are reasonably priced, so there isn't much need to shop across the border.

I bought mine online. Used http://en.toppreise.ch/index.php to find good price. Ended up paying about 30% lower price than the local retailers like MediaMerkt etc.

The one I bought was priced higher in both France or Germany.
