We have brought an ipad from the us - both 1 and ipad 2. They both work fine. However, we choose to buy the wifi only versions so as not to pay for a 3g subscription.

Agree - they do work but be careful about the 3G side of things. If you want want that you can use 3G on, make sure it can be switched on to a Swiss SIM card when you get it here

I also brought an ipad 2 from US...the wifi version...
I only needed to get the right plug...it was 12 chf...
