I just moved in into a new apartment in Burgdorf.
I need a internet connection, and I'm considering also TV-via-internet option.

I saw that Swisscom offers a DSL connection at 34.-CHF per month, and a "Swisscom TV air" at 9.-CHF per month (I'll watch TV from a PC).

Some questions:

- I'm not interested in having a landline phone; since there's no landline connection in my apartment, should I also pay for a telephone line, besides the DSL costs? Or is it possible to have the DSL connection without a telephone line?

- Is there any other offer that you know, maybe by other companies, that could be cheaper than this? (Also, can a company that is not Swisscom give me a dsl connection if I don't have a landline?)

- Is there a list of the TV channels I can see with this "Swisscom TV air" package?

Here you can choose a combination of 2 or 3 products. The light telephone +Internet +TV looks a good option to me,

They used to have bad customer service, but now they are fast and fine, and a lot cheaper than Swisscom.

If you wanna watch TV from your PC you can just use zattoo.com which has most of the free channels that you get over cable/Swisscom. Swisscom TV air is only if you plan to watch TV over their mobile network. At home Zattoo is more than sufficient. Orange and Sunrise also have a mobile TV option The price is roughly the same. The advantage with Swisscom is that they offer live sports events and films

Also, I understood that you MUST pay the "billag" just by the fact that you own a TV or a radio, isn't it?

The fact that you have high speed internet is enough reason for them as you could use those services over it.

Personally I didn't pay it for 3 years untill I had a guy from Billag at my door. I just acted ignorant, he signed me on and there was no fine for me. I'm sure though that there will have been mixed experiences with the Billag people so it's up to you how much you wanna risk it.

With regard the ADSL Innternet without the phone line fee (CHF 25.35) - not possible with Swisscom or Orange. Sunrise does advertise it's included in their package price (that's actually why I'm going with them) but their prices might look dearer.

If you can get a cable connection, you don't need a phone line rental. But I heard rumours that you do need to pay monthly rental for the cable line which is almost the same as the landline fee. I mean, that fee is separate to the advertised prices.

With regard to Billag, I have an impression you don't need to pay if you don't have TV or radio devices. Computers are excluded so far.
