GMail for Blackberry - is the app world changing?

I just changed my Swisscom Blackberry - on my old one, I had a gmail application which I downloaded, but in trying to reload it, I can't find an app anymore. I can "integrate" my gmail into the mail service on the BB, but I don't want to do that as it will interfere with my work service, and I can also access it through the browser, but its clunky.

On investigating further, its clear that this is a deliberate decision by Google to stop supporting Blackberry.....which is a pain in the ass!

Are we about to end the period of common apps across common platforms and having a period of more rivalry and dedicated partnerships?

they support blackberry through the webmail client. why spend engineering time on a soon to be dead platform when you can invest it in the webclient which will continue to be useful.

Then I hope the webmail client improves soon because its not good at present - slow, cumbersome, inelegant and quoting previous messages is a mess. The beauty of the app is that the control keys were available for mail specific actions - forward, reply etc etc, but on a small touch screen through webmail, its messy and difficult
