U.S. ROKU, WIFI dvd players

I am thinking about buying a ROKU player to install on my tv via HDMI cable.

I plan on using a VPN Router to connect my roku to my us based apps.

So here's my question. Has anyone else done it?

Did anyone remedy the power consumption? Experiences? How about experiences with similar american devices i.e. wifi dvd player, apple tv, rya, etc. ?

Here's more info on the roku.

Re: U.S. ROKU, WIFI dvd players

Be prepared for the quality impact.

In Switzerland, HD signals are delivered from the broadcaster to the cable companies at around 15 Mbps
The cable companies send them out on the network at around 10 Mbps

The Roku says it needs about 1.2Mbps Internet connection, so TV signal will be around 1 Mbps.

Thus don't expect too much in terms of picture quality!!
Just because it has HDMI doesn't mean it can deliver full HD...

Check this out before you sign up for VPN. I've used it with my LG SmartTV for Amazon Video (excellent), Hulu Plus, Netflix, etc. It's all about the DNS setting. What's nice is my TV let's me set the DNS so that's the only device going thru their service and therefore no concerns about my banking, etc on my PCs.

I have used xbox live with both the unblock-us service and strongvpn.

With unblock-us- Its has worked very well and everything is streamed at whatever my normal connection speed is. (btw 15-52MBs) Netflix and Hulu Plus work, but the Zune store, Epix, UFC, do not.

With strongvpn i have had spotty record. For the most part it has always worked with occasional lag. (i get 2-10Mbs) 2 days ago i had less than 1mbs. However, every single service has worked. Downloading movies is generally pretty slow
