A hello can somebody explain, I just rented a place and it has a satellite on the terrace, the last tenants want me to pay a satellite box at 300 CHF but at the same time there is a cable box in the adapt, I'm lost .
If I want to use the satellite and not pay swiss com or other provider, can't I just go through tis cable box?
What is the difference between the satellite box and cable box ?
Does anybody have a good address to buy a flat screen tv around wollerau area ???

What are the names / brands / model numbers for these boxes ? With this info, perhaps someone on here can help you out better. Uploading a picture or two might also help.

I don't know the difference between the satellite and the cable box, but I do know the previous tenants can't make you pay for something they left in the apartment. They can ask you to pay for it, and you can decide yes or no. If you don't pay for it, they can either take it with them or leave it. And if you don't want it, they HAVE to remove it from the apartment if they are the ones that installed it.

tell them to sod off, and come up and pick up all their old junk. Whilst they are at it , ask them to make good any walls/doors affected by the satellite cabling ...
There seems to be a trend in ex tenants trying to rip off the next tenant by over charging on tatty furniture etc ....

Absolutely correct. The lazy little bastards didn't want to take it with them and think they can guilt/force some less than knowledgeable foreigner that they owe money for the junk...OMG the nerve !!

If you really want to have some fun, you can turn this back onto them and tell them if they don't come get their crap by a deadline you give them you will invoice them for the storage and disposal costs. They've already admitted it's theirs and you didn't give them permission to leave it, it's now taking up space for which you are paying.

BTW - What does the landlord/building manager have to say about this, they should not have allowed that to have happened without your permission

Just like an AM radio can only receive AM, and an FM radio can only receive FM, the same is true with cable and satellite receivers:

A cable receiver only receives cable signals (via the cable TV socket in the wall)
A satellite receiver only receives satellite signals (via the satellite dish mounted outside of your apartment)

You have to keep an eye on your future situation: what will happen when you leave? Will you have to correct the removal of the cables, is the dish bolted to the building?

When you accepted the apartment did you sign a small form regarding the state of the apartment? On this form does it mention the satellite cables and any "damage" to the apartment?

Maybe someone at work can help you understand the situation you are in. Maybe the old tenants have been told by the landlord to remove their stuff, and they are hoping you will accept the situation? Perhaps someone can talk to the landlord about the satellite installation?

Don't agree to take over anything from the previous people unless you really want it.

Have they left before the end of their contract? Did you know that if you stop paying the rent the landlord will have to get the money from them, as your contract with the landlord has not yet started, but theirs is still active.

This also happened us. A previous tenant wanted us to buy her not so cool tv for 3000chf alongside many other things. We refused(?) to buy TV at least but other things we couldn't find a good reason not to buy. And it was the price for us to get where we live.

It sucks really!!!!
