Is it blogging still popular?
Many people use twitter and facebook, but I think blogging is thing which not covered by social networks and shot messaging like twitter.

Do you have you own blog? What are you usually writing about?
Could you share it here?

I have a blog. I used to write when i first arrived. I lasted a week. Cant remember the password now. Not that i care anymore

No blog. I use twitter a lot. No facebook.

I still blog but mostly it's so I have updates on my personal website for prospective employers to check out. I rant about the death of the internet, etc.

I have a blog where I in theory write about my efforts to become a writer...

It has a tendency to die and then be resurrected several months later!

Yeah, I wrote a lot in my blog last year while I was receiving chemo and rads for breast cancer. It helped a lot. Haven't had a chance to write this year because we've just moved... Will get back to it soon.

And of course it's pretty easy to post a link to new blog entries on twitter and Facebook..so I think most people who blog regularly do that, maybe even linked in if it's work- related.

I have a hiking blog which I started during a period of unemployment, as a way of occupying my time. The original plan was to do a full-blown website, but I took the blog option as an easier starting point. Now that I'm working again I have been neglecting it, but will try to reactivate it again when the spring comes an the new walking season starts.

very peculiar that you should ask on the day in which I finally managed to start our family blog! not online yet, but will be soon.

the main reason I'm doing it is to keep family and friends updated after our move to switzerland. it was becoming increasingly difficult and unnerving to send single mails to everyone.

I'm a web 2.0 dummie myself, and am neither the facebook nor the twitter type. so I opted for Posterous, which is supposed to be very easy to use (an improved tumblr?). alas, it's proving challenging enough for me...
the advantage is that I can create a main space for my business and other spaces for blogs, photo galleries etc. we're keeping the family blog private, though, to be accessed only with password, whereas the main business blog will be public.
I'm quite excited! it's proving great fun to gather daily life anecdotes, pictures and impressions of zurich to share with friends and family. the most difficult part was finding a title we all liked (still working at that)

there was a thread regarding expat blogs and another one regarding this well known problem of "keeping in touch" efficiently...

I do have a blog. I write about what I think about the markets and what I bought/sold or invested in.
The purpose of the blog was to share that info with some friends as it is a closed and invitation only blog.
I am changing the format of my blog cause I want to share more professional information with my friends so it is under construction right now. In the meanwhile I communicate with my friends on Twitter.

No blogs, no twitter, not facebook. I have enough other things to do.

I know the feeling and until now I have resisted telling myself the same thing. but now I realise that "I have enough other things to do" and refuse to spend so much of my time updating everyone on a 1 to 1 basis.

so that's the reason why I am actually starting the blog, because I have enough other things to do. anyone else has the same issue? and can report how it worked out for them?

I've had one for a few months, but not making full use of it as yet, just posting tracks, mostly indie dance, music I might play at my DJ nights, and a couple of posts on stuff I'm working on.

I need to update it to include the family and friends that visited us in Switzerland in 2011. So far I am up to August, so I need to put some time into it to bring it up to Jan 2012.

It was the only way I could think of to share with friends and family the fantastic year I was having in 2011, moving to Zurich.

Venice, here's how "dealing with far-away family and friends" works for me.

I used to be on FB, etc. but cancelled all my accounts about a year ago. I only keep Linkedin for professional connections. When I got out of all social networks, I created a shortlist of friends I really care about and really want to update on what's going on with me (and I know they care about me and want to know what I am doing). Once a month, I send to these few a nice email with a Picasa restricted link to pictures, and updates on what's going on. They then usually get back to me individually with an email + pictures, or call me, etc.

Aside from this, with a couple of friends we correspond via regular mail (as we are "suckers" for handwritten notes), and with family/closest people it's Skype or phone, or more regular short emails.

I have two blogs, one is public and talks about food, stuff I do, etc. but doesn't get updated as much as I'd like. The other one is private and contains my impressions on life and the draft sections of my cookbook I am working on.

I have been blogging for quite sometime, luckily I am still doing it...somehow it has proved to be a great outlet for keeping my thoughts on topics which interest me each week.
